Welcome back to week 2 of our Holiday Money series with Becky from Franticmommy! This week Becky has written a post about Using Fiverr to Generate Christmas Cash. I know you will not want to miss reading her tips on what Fiverr is and how to earn much needed Christmas cash. (Week 1 will be listed at the bottom of this post.)
What kinds of Christmas Gifts do parents want? Educational toys WITHOUT batteries! I will repeat that for all the grandparents, aunts, or uncles out there buying Christmas Gifts. Do NOT buy gifts with BATTERIES!! Battery operated toys are no fun when the batteries die and can cost a small fortune to keep running with full batteries!
So what is a relative to do when you want to buy that precious little one a really awesome Christmas present? Check out all the wonderful EDUCATIONAL options that are out there! Trust me there are all sorts of ways to find inexpensive Christmas Gifts and still give a really nice gift to that deserving child. I used our affiliate links throughout the post to give you links to the best deals I could find.
Places I would suggest looking for Educational Christmas Gifts:
Amazon– What can’t you find on Amazon, right? I am glad that we earn Swagbucks and turn them into Amazon gift cards, lol. We just placed an order the other day. Princess has been eyeballing the American Girl movies for sometime. She found a 4 movie collection for $10! Eldest found a really cool trench coat for a costume. I found a piece of Thomas the Train track that we needed to complete our collection.
Ebates– you can use Ebates all year long for all sort of online shopping discounts. Ebates primarily works as a type of “rebate” on what you purchase not an up front discount. Often during selected Holiday’s stores double their percentage of “ebate”.
Educents– Offers all sorts of discounts for curriculum as well as Educational toys! Freebies are also available all year long and if you join now you will receive a $10 signup bonus!
Groupon– a great place to get a discount on things like zoo or museum memberships or possibly theater tickets. You can also find deals on things like Young Scientist Club, Discovery Kids Laptops, or Zoobook.
Educational Items that make great Christmas Gifts:
Art Supplies and Art Classes– If you are like me and love to learn at home on the cheap then you really need to check out See the Light Shine’s various art dvd’s. They even have a special this month on the Sunflower Dvd which you can read about. Their Art Projects and Art Class dvd’s can turn into an entire high school art credit for homeschool!
Books– Oh, boy! I could go on and on about all the wonderful and fascinating books but I would stick with some classics as well as tried and true newer ones. You can check out some suggestions from last year on my Books for all Ages {Top Ten Holiday Lists} post.
Building and Engineering toys– Don’t think building is just for boys! My daughter loves to build with Lego’s and has requested a few sets like the TMNT and Horse Lego sets. I have some great ideas for Building Toys for Boys and Girls {Top Ten Holiday Lists}.
Roku– while not everyone will agree that a TV product is a great gift I will have to argue my point, lol. I love being able to enjoy Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Instant Prime, and lots of educational show right from the comfort of my bed! I love the soothing music of Little Bear and love that my Roku sits on top of my TV where little hands cannot get to it. That doesn’t mean that the remote isn’t chewed on. That little tag is so irresistible!
Try Amazon Prime 30-Day Free Trial
Digital Camera– This can be a very useful item if you homeschool or have a video loving kid. An old cell phone might be a great option or cheaper option. We still have our original Republic Wireless Motorola Defy XT phones that take really great pics. Plus they still allow for Free Kindle App and other educational apps that Big Red uses like 22Learn and Starfall ABC’s.
Microscope– I am personally keeping my eye on prices for a binocular microscope but most are around $200 which are deeply discounted! I have a price watch app even to alert me if my top 3 choices drop in price so I can order one quickly while they are still in stock. I am also thinking about getting a cheaper version for Big Red and Lil’ Red to have their own Science tools! My top pics are shown below using affiliate links:
Nextbook Tablet- We love our Nextbook tablets so much. We have now bought 5 of them!! Being able to check email, play educational games, read Kindle books, and play music were all deciding factors. They are much cheaper then Kindles and we loved the extra features. I think you can even Skype on them! You can read how we use Electronics in our Homeschool to learn more about how we use our tablets.
