We are back again sharing the second part of The Harvard Classics in audiobook format. I will keep this post formatted in a similar manner to The Harvard Classics Audiobook Edition Part 1. This is a great list of classic literature compiled by the President of Harvard back in 1909 originally dubbed “The 5 Foot Shelf”.

Many of you dear readers are avid learners and researches but maybe you have NOT heard about the Harvard Classics- gasp! I came across this list a few years ago BEFORE my older two were in High School.
The Harvard Classics originally known as Dr. Eliot’s Five Foot Shelf, is a 51-volume anthology of classic works from world literature, compiled and edited by Harvard University president Charles W. Eliot and first published in 1909. “Dr.Charles W.Eliot, the former Harvard president who edited the series, maintained that if one read just 15 minutes a day from the 51 volumes he assembled, it would constitute “a good substitute for a liberal education to anyone who would read them with devotion.”
I want to tackle this huge list of books but there’s no way this mama of 4 is going to lug huge books around for the next several years! It’s May 1st and that means a new topic for Nature Book Club. This month we are learning all about Amphibians and Reptiles. I wanted to make sure and round up some great non-fiction books for kids and thought that a variety of field guides might be helpful. I hope you join us this month a we learn all about different amphibians and reptiles through books, play and hands-on activities.

Spring and Summer bring many days with great weather which beckons my children outdoors. Since we have been participating in a Primitive Skills class this school year I thought it would be good to practice outdoor skills and survival skills with books for kids.
Some books on this list are novels that include outdoor and survival skills that kids use while other will be focus on skills for kids. I have taught my older children how to start a fire in our fire pit in the backyard but it’s time our younger boys learn how and why a fire is important even on a 90 degree day if you are camping!
