Today I would like to share with you a fun way to learn with a pumpkin. Big Red actually picked this pumpkin from our very own garden a few weeks ago. He brought it in all by himself. Since this was technically HIS pumpkin that he plans on making soup with I decided we should do something that was educational but not damaging to the pumpkin!
We decided a pumpkin weighing activity would be just the thing. Before we went to weigh the pumpkin we all decided to guess the weight to see who was the closest. Each member of the family except Lil’ Red made a guess before we weighed Big Red’s pumpkin.
Dad guessed: 8 pounds
Mom guessed: 4.5 pounds
Eldest guessed: 15 pounds
Princess guessed: 10 pounds
Big Red guessed: 1,000 pounds
The pumpkin was too light for the scale to read so Big Red had to stand on the scale with the pumpkin. Then he stood on the scale without the pumpkin to get his weight. Then daddy figured out the difference of the two weights so we could determine what the pumpkin was. Dad determined that our pumpkin weighed: 6 pounds!

What a fun estimating activity! We’ll have to do this with our (store-bought) pumpkin this weekend. Thanks for organizing the blog hop, Thaleia!

He must be so proud of his very own pumpkin! I love how he thought it would be 1000 pounds, lol!

I love the idea of weighing pumpkins but I’ll have to borrow a scale since we don’t own one. Looks like an activity for grammy and grandpa’s house!

Too funny. We don’t either and went to Grandma’s house to use hers, lol.

These grew from seeds in our compost pile, lol.
