Whether you are visiting for a day or a week you will want to be able to bring your vehicle to Put-in-Bay. Can you imagine lugging all of your items for yourself your children and your food without having the advantage of your vehicle? I cannot fathom trying to herd my kids and keep my sanity while trying to carry all of our clothes, diabetes supplies and comfort items. That is why we chose Miller Ferry to transport us from Catawba Island to South Bass Island.
This was the first time my hubby and kids got to ride a ferry. We had a great experience. No one got scared or sick. There’s a bathroom available on board which we didn’t need to use but glad one was available.
Ferries typically leave every 20-30 minutes but you want to arrive before your expected departure time. We had to make a potty break and missed one by a few minutes which meant we had to wait for the next one. No big deal if you are on a flexible vacation schedule. If you are on a tight schedule just arrive early.
Everyone we came in contact with from the Miller Ferry Boatline were friendly and helpful. The ladies at the ticket booth to the ticket checker to the guys directing traffic onto and off the Ferry were all pleasant. Another huge bonus was all the coupons that you can find AND print from their website for both South Bass and Middle Bass Islands.
After being guided onto the ferry, we turned off the van and decided to stretch our legs and find the best possible view. This was totally optional (you can simply wait in your vehicle if you want to), but we wanted to get the full experience. We couldn’t resist some more selfie fun on the Miller Ferry Boat!
We carefully made our way to the upper deck. It was pretty windy and a little chilly so after a short while, I took our youngest inside the heated cabin while my crazy husband and oldest 3 found seats out on the deck next to the railing. Once the ferry began docking, we made our way back downstairs and loaded back into the van.
