It’s December 1st and that means a new topic for Nature Book Club. This month we are learning all about evergreens and pinecones. Winter weather always gets me thinking about evergreen trees and pinecones. I wanted to share some good selections for kids. Many of these books also have a Christmas theme to them but I think that’s what makes them so great!

It’s time for another Nature Book Club and this month’s theme is trees and twigs! Can you believe it’s Thanksgiving week already? Where has the year gone! I was a little glad that the leaves took longer to change this year so that we could spend some time on various tree and leaf identification activities. We walked around the block looking for leaves. We attended a primitive skills class and got to collect tons of leaves while at a large park. We went on a nature hike with another family and identified a tree by it’s fruit!

The first thing we identified as was Common Persimmon tree due to it’s fruit! This was super exciting since we had been to this park a handful of times over the last decade but never at the same time of year. I saw fruit on a tree and on the ground around the tree and couldn’t help but pick up a few. The other mom that was with us thought it was a Common Persimmon and she was right!
