Winter Birds and Nests Scavenger Hunt #NatureBookClub {Link Up}

January 20, 2018 By Thaleia 3 Comments

This month’s theme for Nature Book Club is Winter Birds and Nests. We read the book Birds, Nests and Eggs  which talks about different birds and the types of nests that they make. I decided it would be fun to go on a Nest Scavenger Hunt around our neighborhood. We then went outside and started looking for nests.

(Lil’ Red said his favorite bird and nest is the American Goldfinch. We have seen these a few times in our neighborhood in the Spring or Summer. They often visit Grandma’s feeders.)

We bundled up with coats, hats, and winter boots. I handed Lil’ Red a pair of binoculars and off we went.

We first spotted a large nest high up in a neighbor’s tree. We think it might be a squirrel’s nest.

November 28, 2022 By Thaleia Leave a Comment

We are back again sharing the second part of The Harvard Classics in audiobook format. I will keep this post formatted in a similar manner to The Harvard Classics Audiobook Edition Part 1. This is a great list of classic literature compiled by the President of Harvard back in 1909 originally dubbed “The 5 Foot Shelf”.

Disclaimer: I have not personally listened to or read through all of these so please us this list of audiobooks at your own discretion.

Summer Reading Club Programs Around the Miami Valley Area

May 5, 2019 By Thaleia Leave a Comment

We love taking advantage of various Summer Reading Club programs from a variety of different libraries. Since I look up lots of different Summer Reading Club dates and activities I thought I would share those with my loyal local readers! Our family usually takes part in a handful of programs at various library locations around the Miami Valley but I am always looking for more free family friendly events especially for my teens.

Each Summer I build our calendar around the free programs that I find and Summer Reading Club programs are a big part in our fun! I am loving all the variety of programs the libraries I have contacted so far have told me about from STEM to music to art. We also make sure to prepare Summer Reading spaces as soon as the weather is warm and are sure to look up the Kids Summer Movie schedule.

Free Nature Study Resources

September 27, 2016 By Thaleia Leave a Comment

I love free resources and digital resources are even better! I have been collecting free homeschool resources for awhile and love using free nature study resources. I think that many parents overlook the incredible value that nature study has to offer. If you take your children out in nature not only are they learning about nature but science, art, community, preservation, and their place in the world! That’s a lot of concepts that you cannot learn from a book!

Free Kindle Books to Save Your Summer Sanity

June 15, 2015 By Thaleia

What parent or caregiver couldn’t use a little help to save your Summer sanity? Now that most schools are out for an extended time it’s time to plan some awesome activities to keep your children engaged.

Free Kindle books to save your Summer Sanity
I wanted to fill my own tablet with tons of free Kindle books to be my backup in case all of my Summer planning fails to keep the dreaded ” Mom, I am bored.” phrase from happening. We have joined Summer Reading clubs at the library, looked up nature programs from 3 different facilities, and have added in the cheap movie club movies. Sometimes all the planning in the world cannot keep your kids from being bored.
Remember you do not have to own a Kindle in order to take advantage of free Kindle books and I am using affiliate links within this post. All you need to do is download the free Kindle App for your phone, tablet, PC, or Desktop!
