Big Red turned eight this Spring so I knew that it was time to up his academics a little bit this Fall. He is a very inquisitive child who is very good at mental math. He can read on his own quite well even though he was never given formal phonics or reading lessons. I share how I taught him to read in another post for those whom might be interested.

Last year we decided to pick a history and science that everyone would learn together which helped me to keep my sanity. I decided to do the same thing for this year and use Mystery of History Volume 1 as our main spine.

If you have multiple children interested in Summer camps then you will want to find out what your options are as early as possible. There’s nothing like the sinking feeling of finding the perfect program for one of your children to discover it conflicts with another program. Last Minute Ways to Study Advent

I know I know I know. Advent and Christmas come around once a year pretty much the same week and I should be ready by Thanksgiving, right? Well, I do think about different ways to celebrate Advent and think it’s too early to print off advent activity guides or research advent plans or reading guides. Free Benefits at Ohio Libraries

Ohio offers a lot of libraries with all sorts of benefits or perks. Many people may only have a single library card from their local library but have you ever considered checking out other libraries in YOUR state? I happen to live in a county that does not offer a county-wide system but each town manages their own library. A few tie in with the larger Dayton Metro Public Library system but even having library cards from all of those isn’t enough for this frugal homeschool mama!

I have super long book lists for my not quite ready to read Kindergarten son to my teen daughter who is searching for a favorite genre. I personally have a list of audiobooks for parenting and homeschool encouragement that I want to tackle which I have added in the files of my Homeschool Beginners Facebook Group.. How can I accomplish this with a meager budget and near empty gas tank?

Simply by signing up for a few more library cards online at bigger library systems. I am going to share why I have library cards from Cleveland Public Library, Columbus Metropolitan Library, Toledo Lucas County Public Library and The Public Library of Cincinnati. I only had to actually step foot in a Cincinnati location the other two you can apply online for a card.

2018-2019 Homeschool Curriculum General Overview

Each year during the Spring and Summer I think about the upcoming Fall and what it will bring for my children’s educations via homeschool curriculum. I try to look for new and interesting things to learn, study and experience. This year will be our first year that all four children will be “in school”.

We started last year all learning the same Science and History which seemed to make my life a little bit easier. Last year we learned American History and Anatomy (loosley using Guest Hollow’s outline) while this year we will focus on Ancient History and Botany. We will use Mystery of History 1 and Guest Hollow’s Ancient History for book, video and activity ideas as well as Guest Hollow’s Botany.
