October 10, 2019 By Thaleia Leave a Comment

Storms and crazy weather can scare young children but learning about weather might help. Getting a collection of weather books for kids and reading them to your children just might bring them comfort. Once children understand signs of storms and about weather they could learn to track storms and enjoy the changes it brings.

Exploring Fossils #NatureBookClub #naturestudy #fossils

September 20, 2019 By Thaleia Leave a Comment

Rocks and fossils have been treasures that all four of my children have enjoyed exploring and collecting. We live in a state that does allow fossil collection in designated locations and we have been fortunate enough to visit two of them: Caesar’s Creek State Park and Trammel Fossil Park. This month’s theme for Nature Book Club is Rocks, Gems and Fossils and we thought we would share some ways to learn about fossils.

Books for Kids about Habitats #booklist #naturestudy #NatureBookClub

August 1, 2019 By Thaleia Leave a Comment

Do you long to spend days exploring a new environment filled with animals, plants and other things unique to you? Teaching children about habitats not in your daily environment can seem a little overwhelming unless you find some good books for kids to share with them. Reading how animals and plants live in other places around the world can be exciting and eye opening at the same time.

In our area we can explore rivers, forests, prairies and wetlands are the common habitats found in Ohio. We have been known to head to the river to catch frogs or the prairie to watch butterflies. Since the Summer is at it’s peak the prairie flowers should be in full bloom and when the river is low it’s fun to try and catch some insects or fish. Trees are showing their leaves in full glory and can be easy to identify at this time of year.

Observing Pollinators #NatureBookClub #NatureStudy

July 20, 2019 By Thaleia Leave a Comment

I love seeing bright flowers in the Summer and have loved growing Purple Coneflowers to feed pollinators. Usually bees are the first to come to mind when I hear the word pollinators BUT there are many others. If you haven’t guessed this month’s Nature Book Club theme is pollinators!

We have been learning a lot about bees and pollinators as part of our Botany class. We had planned to visit another homeschool family that have a son who is a beekeeper but the weather and our schedule have not cooperated so far. We want to continue to go on Botany Field Trips and share our experiences when we can.

Vegetable Gardens and Seed Exploration #NatureBookClub #NatureStudy

June 20, 2019 By Thaleia Leave a Comment

This month’s Nature Book Club theme is gardening and gardens. I am not sure about you but here in the Midwest it’s been hard to get our garden started with all the rain. We have had to start seeds a few times.

How a Seed Grows

Since we are diving into Botany this Summer I thought it would be good for the little boys to learn all about seeds and do some seed exploration. We own the book, How a Seed Grows, which delves into what seeds look like as well as how to grow vegetable gardens.
