Today Lil’ Red is helping to share our latest sensory bin which goes along with the Christmas carol “I Want A Hippopotamus for Christmas”. I was wracking my brain trying to come up with a unique idea for a sensory bin with items we already had around the house and this is what we came up with.

I quickly gathered our supplies:
green glittery tissue paper
plastic hippopotamus and rhinoceros
crocodile squirter
tiny doll borrowed from Princess
tinker toys
chimney

I realized that we didn’t have a chimney and the dollar stores didn’t have anything. We came home to find a cheese block box in the recycle bin! Bingo. I found a printable chimney after a quick google search. I shrunk it down and fit 4 on the page to cover all four sides.

After the chimney was dry  I presented the sensory bin to Lil’ Red to explore!

He didn’t like the items in the bin so we dumped them out onto his table. He had lots of fun with the tinker toys.

It might be a USA song, lol. It’s been around for less then 100 years so in carol time it’s a young carol.
