Backyard Camping Ideas and We Love Weekends

June 19, 2015 By Thaleia

My 5 year old has been begging to camp outdoors since a few weeks before his birthday in April. Since the weather was very cold then I promised him that once the weather got warmer we’d camp out. Well, now the weather has been in the mid 90’s during the day and only cooling down to mid 70’s at night-ACK! I am watching the weather like a hawk for a good night the little boys and I can camp out back.

Backyard Camping Ideas

We have our tent, tarp, and air mattress from last year but may need to get a few more solar lanterns and some more glow-in-the-dark things. I will also have to mow the yard so it’s not so buggy but we are ready to camp out on a moments notice. Last year I did a night of backyard camping with my nursing baby and preschooler without hubby or big kids!

Backyard camping is really a great way to expose your children to a new adventure while staying on a budget. Check out all the reasons why Backyard Camping is a good idea.

We have even taught our older two children how to build a campfire safely. I highly suggest this skill for all ages over 7 under close supervision within the correct weather conditions.

I must admit I researched for 2 years before even considering buying a tent! If you are anything like me and need a checklist then check out Rainy Day Mum’s First Time Camping Checklist.

Have you tried your hand at backyard camping?
