2018-2019 Homeschool Curriculum General Overview

August 23, 2018 By Thaleia Leave a Comment

Each year during the Spring and Summer I think about the upcoming Fall and what it will bring for my children’s educations via homeschool curriculum. I try to look for new and interesting things to learn, study and experience. This year will be our first year that all four children will be “in school”.

homeschool curriculum 2018-2019

We started last year all learning the same Science and History which seemed to make my life a little bit easier. Last year we learned American History and Anatomy (loosley using Guest Hollow’s outline) while this year we will focus on Ancient History and Botany. We will use Mystery of History 1 and Guest Hollow’s Ancient History for book, video and activity ideas as well as Guest Hollow’s Botany.

Since late Spring and early Summer topics like pollinators, bees, and other botany related topics have been offered as free classes and nature story times through local parks and libraries. We have had quite the variety of visitor’s to our wildlife garden and so this confirmed that Botany should be our Science for this year!

High School Homeschool Curriculum

Eldest and Princess will do enough course work in Ancient History and Botany to receive 2-3 high school credits while Big Red and Lil’ Red will learn enough for elementary. I scour the internet for free videos, quizzes and misc notebooking pages for both levels of learners.

Eldest will complete Algebra 1/2 and Algebra 1 this year while Princess will complete Geometry. Eldest will work on creating what he does on his computer into High School create whether it’s to complete YouTube Creator Academy or track hours for Film Making and Graphic Design. Princess may earn enough credit for Animal Husbandry with research and hands-on experience with dogs (Bayley and Axle) and Kaiju the green iguana!

I really want to propel my knowledge of herbs to an all new level so Princess and I will learn Herbalism together. We will work on creating our own DIY Herbalism Course over the course of this school year.We will watch videos, learn to make herbal remedies and gifts all while tracking our time. We will bring in the boys for plant identification and field trips for part of Botany.

3rd Grade Homeschool Curriculum

Big Red loves Math, Science and Video Games so I will be sure that he watches more Brain Games and we play lots of Math games this year. I may see if he can understand HTML via Code Academy or play some type of coding games that are not on the computer. We might even make it to a STEM class or two through a few libraries or homeschool group.

I am also thinking of trying out some reading list using those from Ambleside Online and have found many free via Librivox or Hoopla. We do own many paperbacks and we even get lots of advanced copies of books not yet published which are fun to read.

Kindergarten Homeschool Curriculum

Lil’ Red will be in early Kindergarten because he may have just turned five but his vocabulary and wit are astounding. He knows his colors and numbers, mostly. He recognizes letters of the alphabet and their sounds more each day. He has incredible fine motor skills and interest but he doesn’t quite have the mechanics of holding a pencil correctly. He does have the desire to “do his school work” so he can watch tv or play video games so at least I have an easy incentive in place..

I will print off lots of worksheets so that he can cut, glue, write, and draw his way to learning all the basics for Kindergarten this year.

Everyone will also have Mathematics, Spelling & Vocabulary, Reading/Literature, Health/PE, Art & Music (from History) and a few other misc clubs and activities.

I will create a few more posts sharing links for Ancient History resources, Botany resources, Herbalism resources and anything else I come up with this year. We already have shared tons of free Math resources and Famous Composer Unit Study resources.

What about your family? What are they doing for Homeschool Curriculum this year?
