ABC’s of American History: W is for George Washington

June 9, 2015 By Jen Altman

What’s more fun then learning about our first president George Washington! PicMonkey Collage

George Washington, the father of our country!  We all know George Washington was the first president of the United States of America, but, his story starts long before his inauguration!

He began to survey land at the age of 15 and landed his first big surveyor job at the age of 17.  Therefore, he never even finished high school.  A few years after he joined the military fighting for the British in the French and Indian War.  Though later he served in the Continental Army fighting against Britain in the Revolutionary War.  He helped lead the army to a victory.  One of his most famous battles is that of Trenton, when he lead the army across the Delaware River on Christmas night of 1776.  He was the President of the Constitutional Convention. He was the only President to win a unanimous vote in the presidential elections.  We also choose to end his presidency after 2 terms, starting the 2 term maximum trend (which did not become official until much later).

This list of resources are great to use when learning about George Washington.
