Great Art Journals for the Art Lover #EllieClaireGifts

October 25, 2019 By Thaleia Leave a Comment

I was provided Faith & Lettering, The Illustrated Word and Illuminate Your Story by Worthy Publishing in exchange for my review. All opinions about these art journals are mine.

Art journals and Bible journaling have been very popular the last few years. I even purchased a journaling Bible for Princess so she could give it a try but I haven’t given this new creative outlet a chance for myself. I know that some churches and woman’s groups set aside time each month to work on their journals in a group setting.

Faith & Lettering Journal

If you are just starting out and you want to learn some fancy lettering then the Faith & Lettering Journal would be a great starter journal for you. This item would also make a great gift for a teen who has a desire to become creative with doodling and lettering.

New from professional letterer Krystal Whitten! With guides, instructions, and tutorials, this is a fun and inspiring way to create beauty with words. It is the perfect place for journalers to practice Bible journaling, lettering quotes and verses, or decorating a page with original thoughts and plans. Exploring your God-given creativity has never been so rewarding.

The Illustrated Word

If you enjoy famous works of art and grand literature then this would be the journal for you. This journal features both black and white line drawing for you to color in along with a snippet of the original color design.

Create your own masterpiece with this journal that has forty glorious illustrations from ancient manuscripts that have been recreated as line drawings. Just as medieval monks brought Scripture to life through intricate inked illustrations in handwritten manuscripts hundreds of years ago, you can now create your own stunning keepsake that will be treasured for years to come.

The Illustrated Word Coloring Journal inside

Illuminate Your Story

If you have the desire to learn to draw animals from the Bible and learn decorative lettering then this journal would best suit you.

Use this almost-lost art of illuminating letters to enhance your writing, Bible journaling, or sermon note-taking. Rich illustrated manuscripts in the Museum of the Bible’s collection inspired these gorgeous letters. Easy to follow instructions, practice pages, and encouragements guide you through the creation of amazing start letters, flourishes, and more.

Illuminate Your Story Journal inside

Reviewing a journal is a bit different than reviewing a book. When you review a book, you may be commenting on the overall message or theme, the writing structure, or individual chapter topics. With a journal, there is not as much text to critique. Instead, consider one or more of the following:

  1. Did you like the art style shown inside the book? Did the art style and the quotes/text in the book work well together?
  2. Were the quotes inside the journal inspirational? List one or two of your favorites.
  3. Test the paper thickness with different pens and markers. Did you see any bleed-through?
  4. If the journal was teaching an art technique, how clear was the instruction? Was it helpful? Or did you need/want more?
  5. Describe how you plan to use the journal or who the journal is for (age ranges, creative types, professions.)
  6. Are there added features to the journal (pen loop, keepsake pocket, foil or embellishments on the cover)?
  7. Compare and contrast multiple journals and their features.

Soccer Camp

June 14, 2019 By Thaleia Leave a Comment

Sometime over the last year my middle son, Big Red, became interested in soccer. He attended a local homeschool gym program that offers a variety of 3 week sessions. His favorite weeks were soccer and swimming.

Soccer Camp Boy with Ball

When I got an email offering a free week of soccer camp through UsFamily Guide I jumped at the chance to enroll him. This 5 day 3 hour camp will give us both a chance to see how much he really enjoys soccer before signing up for a longer commitment this Fall. The closest location for the Challenger International Soccer camp was just over 20 minutes away and was the first week of June. Since nothing else was scheduled for our family’s calendar I signed him up.

Tips for Getting Your Beginner Reader to Read the Bible #RickWarren #FlyBy

October 27, 2017 By Thaleia 3 Comments

This is a sponsored post on behalf of Zondervan through Propeller Consulting, LLC. Product was provided to facilitate my review without compensation.

Today I want to share some tips for getting your beginner reader to read the Bible. I want to start off by saying that this post is just as much advice for my own family as it is yours. We are not the best examples of daily Bible reading and that is something I want to change. I realize that change takes time AND a conscious decision to be more purposeful. I want to include both Bible stories and Bible songs into our daily homeschool routine.

Tips for Getting Your Beginner Reader to Read the Bible

I asked some Christian mom’s for their tips for getting your beginner reader to read the Bible. I love their responses and how passionate each mom was about making sure their children have a Bible and are read to regularly.

Good food is an important part of our daily lives. We do our best to plan out our meals each week, using our Crock Pot or Instant Pot for convenience. Sometimes being a busy mom of four picky eaters means a lot of times those meal plans go out the window. We end up having tired standbys like macaroni and cheese or pb & j sandwiches. Well, now Mom, Dad and the Big Kids can enjoy some yummy Asian food anytime we want with Ling Ling Fried Rice!Ling Ling Yakiniku Beef Fried Rice

Riley was excited to find the new flavors of Ling Ling Fried Rice. I could not wait to get home and try some and that’s exactly what we did. We put our groceries away and placed a single package of fried rice into the pan. Next I cooked it right up on the stove just like the directions stated and had yummy rice in less then 10 minutes!

Ling Ling Yakitori Chicken

I am always skeptical of pre-packaged ethnic foods but was very pleased with the Ling Ling Yakitori Chicken. It tasted GOOD! No strange after-taste, no lingering chemicals because it is made with all natural ingredients. This fried rice was delicious and each bag only served 2 people because we were fighting over it!
