Clearance Items for Your Christmas Gifts

October 30, 2014 By Thaleia 9 Comments

This is another installment of the Holiday Money series co-hosted by Becky from Franticmommy.com and myself. This week Becky is talking about Why Planning is the Key to a Successful Budget Christmas. If you missed the previous weeks posts during this series be sure to scroll to the bottom where all the weeks and posts are listed for easy reference.

Clearance items make for great and inexpensive Christmas Gifts. We have done this many many times for all sorts of wonderful surprises! Do you have children who like to draw or write? Then Back to School Clearance deals are right up your alley. Sometimes stores make things down in September or October or November depending on the size of store and amount of “leftover” school supplies.

For all the little ones that like dress-up hitting up Halloween Clearance is a VERY good idea. We have bought most of our costumes that way and we play dress-up all year long. Occasionally we find a non-traditional item in the Halloween clearance aisle. Last year we found tiered skirts on clearance for $3 that were super cute! I bought a couple for Princess and a couple for my niece for Christmas last year. They do not have a bit of Halloween about them. They are purple and pink ruffled skirts that are perfect over leggings.

Lots of great items in yellow, orange, brown, and red can be found in the Thanksgiving Clearance. Not everything will be Turkey themed. Sometimes you can find plain or solid items ranging from tablecloths to plastic silver wear to cute clothing items. Even though most people associate “Turkey” with Thanksgiving we eat it at more Holidays so the super cute shirts that say, “Grandma Makes the Best Turkey!” can be worn at Christmas and Easter as well if they still fit! Clothing always is a nice gift for those with growing infants and toddlers who grow each season and need an ENTIRE new wardrobe. Those lucky little ones:)

This is my kinda shopping! I start Christmas shopping in late summer and squirrel away frugal finds for six months. One year I even bought pajamas at an after Christmas sale and saved them until the following Christmas, almost forgot I had them! Frugal shopping allows us to “spoil” our kids with extras.

I do this too, and don’t forget thrift stores. I just bought some wonderful vintage jewelry for a collector friend, and several packages of brand new paper napkins with holiday themes. I have found lots of new, still-sealed things from time to time.

Great idea. I really should start picking up stocking stuffers throughout the year and find a good bag to store them in so I know where everything is when I need it.

Oh, we get a majority of our clothes from Thrift Stores unless we can find a brand new item cheaper on clearance, lol.

I do this all the time and then I just store it in the attic for whenever I need a gift. These are great ideas!

I’ve had a lot of luck over the years finding clearance items throughout the year and tucking them away for Christmas. Thank you for sharing with us at Snickerdoodle Sunday!
