Hueston Woods Lodge and Cabins College Corner, OH #greatohiolodges

Educational Games for 2-8 Year Olds

First off I will admit that my family is NOT the roughing it type. I try to get them to camp in the backyard a handful of times which is a feat in itself. So if you want to get out of your daily routine and want a comfortable Glamping, (glamorous camping) experience then Hueston Woods Lodge and Cabins will be perfect for your family.

Hueston Woods Lodge and Cabins College Corner, OH

When we stay away from home we like all the comforts of home from WiFi to a stove and refrigerator and that’s exactly what we got when we stayed at the Hueston Woods Family Cabin! Since Eldest has Type 1 Diabetes having a way to refrigerate his insulin and cook meals easily is a must.

Hueston Woods Indoor Pool

The pool and having the chance to swim is usually the most important feature for our children when it comes to a vacation or trip. Having the choices between an indoor pool, outdoor pool, and the beach make Hueston Woods Lodge a great choice during the Summer!

Hueston Woods Beach

Each child enjoyed the beach and Acton Lake. Eldest and Princess used their goggles to swim out as far as they could go. Big Red wanted to go out to the buoy with Riley and the big kids so he put on his life jacket and out they went. Lil’ Red stayed on the beach playing with the sand and a new truck that we bought.

Big Red says, “The pools both indoor and outdoor were fun. The beach was a great place to swim with my family. The outdoor pool at Hueston Woods Lodge was a large pool. I could go under water very easily. It was a lot of fun!”

Hueston Woods Family Cabin

Riley says, “I really liked the cabins. The kids loved the bunk bed with a trundle bed. It felt very comfortable and homey which gave our family a chance to relax and unwind.” The cabins themselves were nicely furnished with plenty of pillows and blankets for each bed. The stove, refrigerator, and microwave were all newer then ours at home! The stove offered a flat cooking surface which was really nice to use for lunch and dinner.

The pavement around the cabins made it nice for the children to ride their scooters which helped them stay busy while we were getting ready to head out for the day.

Hueston Woods Scooters

We were offered a breakfast buffet as part of our stay which was very nice and gave the children lots to choose from. There was everything you could think of from cold cereal and milk to fresh fruit to grits and cinnamon apples.

Hueston Woods Breakfast

Eldest saw the eggs, sausage and bacon and dug right in. Princess tried some bacon, cold cereal, and fresh fruit. Big Red started off cold cereal and then ate bacon and eggs. Lil’ Red was game to try French Toast with strawberries plus a piece of bacon. Riley hadd eggs, bacon, potatoes, and water to drink. I really enjoyed the French Toast topped with strawberries and the bacon the most.

We got to know the maintenance guy pretty well over our stay for a couple of reasons. The first one being that the chair on the back covered deck had a missing screw. We called the desk and let them know and he was out to claim the chair within under 10 minutes. He then brought us a replacement chair in less than 5 minutes.

The next day we needed a larger skillet to cook up our hamburgers for dinner and he brought us a bigger skillet. Then half of us left the cabin for an activity and while we were gone the other half of the family went to play outside without any keycards. We had to call the Lodge Desk and once again the maintenance guy came to our rescue! He said it happens about 3 times a day during the Summer and we all had a good laugh. The maintenance guy was very nice and friendly each time we interacted with him which is very important for a family with children.

Hueston Woods Caterpillar

We saw a variety of wildlife during our stay which included a lot of deer which we could never get a picture of! We also saw Canadian Geese, Seagulls, Ducks, a groundhog, Turkey Vultures, a toad, a fuzzy caterpillar, and a few Blue Heron. If our stay had not been preceded by three days of rain then we would have taken to the hiking trails and seen much more wildlife.

Hueston Woods Lodge Night

The Lodge itself is very pretty lit up at night. There are a handful of benches on the back lawn that allows for a great place to relax or for sunrise and sunset pictures to be taken. Princess and Lil’ Red went with me to take some pictures and that is where we found a small toad along the path!

Hueston Woods ToadAs you can see Hueston Woods Lodge is a great place to spend the day or week with your family. We cannot wait to go back in the Fall and play some disc golf and catch a hiking trail or two!
