Kid Made Watercolor Cookie Cutter Christmas Card

November 30, 2016 By Thaleia 4 Comments

With Thanksgiving being celebrated last week it’s time to get into gear with our plans for Christmas learning and gift making. Since we have four kids it can be really fun to see the variety of kid made Christmas cards and gifts that they can come up with. Today we are sharing a simple Christmas card made by  Big Red using watercolor and cookie cutters. The boys have been in a watercolor painting kick so why not create cute Christmas cards from their artwork!

Gather Your Supplies:

Cardstock or Construction Paper

Watercolor Paint set

Watercolor Paper

Watercolor Brush

Wilton Cookie Cutters

Scissors- we used some from Fundanoodle

Glue Sticks

How We Made our Christmas Card:

The first thing we did was to watercolor a picture on our watercolor paper. We found a few pictures that had been made the week before and re-purposed one of them for this project.

We let our paintings dry before deciding what the main image of the card was going to be. I gave the boys a choice of train, star, tree, house or gingerbread ornament.

We traced each ornament on the watercolor painting and were able to fit five cookie cutters on one page!

Next we grabbed some scissors to cut out our designs. We just got our package of Fundanoodle in the mail and it included a super cute 3 pack of scissors. Since we love beta testing things out both Big Red and I just had to try them for this kid made Christmas card project! They work much better than I expected.

After cutting our out train, star, house, snowman and Gingerbread man, Big Red folded the construction paper in half and then in half again to create the base of the card.

Then it was time to break out the glue sticks! I think this might be one of my boys favorite things!

He picked one image for each card and is already planning which relative get which card!

Wonderful ideas here– love the one-of-a-kind design of the cards as well as the creative-simplicity~! My 7yo daughter and I made parsels together last week {Christmas decoration originating in the Philippines… melting crayon-shavings in star-shaped wax-paper}. Great fun! I will be checking out the other Kid-made Christmas cards in the series, too. 🙂
