Impromptu Overnight Getaway and We Love Weekends

May 22, 2015 By Thaleia

I will have to admit I was ecstatic when I checked our bank account to find our tax return money. It just so happened to be a Friday that hubby had taken a vacation day for a homeschool event. We ended up skipping that event to take a quick 24 hour overnight getaway.

Impromptu Getaway

We headed through Wendy’s Drive thru and were on our way! Of course we were down the road just 10 minutes when a potty break was called which led to Beanie Boo’s! My niece first introduced us to Beanie Boos a couple of years ago but usually they are $10-$12 a piece. This Circle K Filling Station had them for $4.99 each. So we let each kid pick one out. Eldest heard Princess debating on which one to get and she narrowed it down to 2. He picked one of her choices so she could get the ones she wanted. Such a sweet big brother!

We headed about an hour away to a place holding homeschool discount days called EnterTrainment Junction. We have been wanting to go for a couple of years but have never to managed to go during homeschool days. We arrived around 2 pm with a closing time of 6pm. The parking lot was deserted and I was a little worried that they would be closed. They were open and super friendly. Lil’ Red was in awe of all the G-scale trains. Eldest and Princess grabbed a scavenger hunt sheet and looked for the “special hidden bunnies” in order to earn a prize. They were very serious about both of these tasks.

After EnterTrainment Junction we were all hungry and found a Bonefish Grill to eat dinner. A much nicer place then we would usually eat with all four children. It was quite the adventure but we survived. I had to walk Lil’ Red out of the restaurant’s revolving door numerous times to “run his energy out” while waiting for our food.

Then since we had packed swimsuits and overnight bags we were determined to stay at a hotel with an indoor pool. I didn’t have wifi and so I didn’t book a hotel online. This turned out to be a blessing in disguise. We drove over to the hotel about 3 minutes from the restaurant and hubby ran in. He was gone for about 5 minutes and then came out with 4 keycards. They gave him a $25 discount just for walking in the door BUT when they saw his hospital band gave him an additional discount for a suite! I was shocked. So we are giving a nice big shout out to  Windgate by  Wyndham of West Chester for a fabulous overnight stay.

What are your plans for this weekend? Maybe you need to getaway or maybe you have tons of fun projects planned!
