Reasons to Harvest Dandelions

May 11, 2015 By Thaleia

Okay, I can hear some of you mumbling how crazy I must be to suggest reasons to harvest dandelions. Many people view them as weeds but in actuality they are native plants and very beneficial. Dandelions provide nutrients for free if your yard allows them to grow in a chemical free environment.

Reasons to harvest dandelions

I just finished my initial harvesting of dandelions which I will do each day until I mow to be sure and take full advantage of these free little beauties. I will infuse some in honey and others in olive oil. I am going to try the leaves in a salad or one of these dandelion recipes.

Since I am still so new to herbalism and learning all about the nutrients in plants I have found some places that I trust to let you explore and learn all about dandelions on your own. Here are some places I would check out to learn more about dandelions:

Wellness Mama- Dandelion Herb Profile

The Nerdy Farm Wife- Free Things to do with Dandelion Ebook

Healthy Net- Dandelion :Herbal Medicine Materia Medica

Henriette’s Herbal- Dandelion

Marmy’s Pantry- Dandy Dandelion

Amazing Grace Wellness Connections- The Dandy Dandelion and The Believer’s Life

Whispering Earth- Dandelion Medicine

Botanical Modern Herbal- Dandelion

Kitchen Herb Wife- What to Do with Dandelions

American Herbalists Guild

Off the Grid News- Plants to include in your Herbal First Aid Kit

If you are intrigued by all this talk about the usefulness of dandelions then you might want to try one of these Dandelion Recipes that I gathered up. We have two batched of infused oil right now and cannot wait to create some lotion bars, salves, and cupcakes with dandelion blossoms.
