Reasons to Use Google Drive In Your Homeschool

I love Google Drive! Love love love it! I am a person who must keep digital documents organized and ready to access which is why I like using Google Drive in our homeschool.

Organize All the Free Homeschool Downloads in Google Drive

I am a researcher and uber frugal which means I like to download LOTS of freebies to use in our homeschool. WHY? Well, after finding out some websites that used to offer free items are now charging a membership fee, I decided I better download everything I think I could use for my four children. Sometimes an ebook or printable pack is ONLY free for a limited time which means it needs to be saved in order for your family to have access.

I have created folders by subject and sometimes a grade level folder to remind me of all the goodies I might want to use for that age. Since my children have some grades between them it is easy to forget some of the resources that I downloaded for the older two versus the younger two.

Google Drive Folders

Create a Google Sheet for Middle School or High School Assignments

Eldest and Princess are pretty independent learners but often lose track of what they should be doing. I have created a spreadsheet that includes tabs across the bottom for all the potential subjects for this school year. YES, I said potential because each one has chosen electives, and I included all of the subjects into one spreadsheet. I did create copies sent to each child via Gmail so they can record time for subjects that will be given credit using hours instead of textbook coursework.

Remember Useful Websites to use Later Using Google Drive Docs

I created a Google Doc specifically with useful links for a ton of subjects for High School so that when we are ready for Art 2 or Photography we have those resources easily accessible. I am usually not satisfied with just 1 link for a subject. I usually try to find enough free links for each subject that I can then share the free resources with others like in my Free Handwriting, Copywork and Writing post or Free Spanish Resources post or Free Chemistry Resources post!

What a great idea! LOL I have google drive, but I’m so not geared to think that way automatically I honestly thought this had something to do with driving. Like google maps kinda thing. LOL I love the idea of saving all the freebie downloads here because I know many of them have been lost to the internal chaos of my hard drive over the years! Thanks for sharing.

At first it might seem overwhelming to get all those folders created and organized but you will be so glad that you did! It will save you time and money in the long run if you love free printables, ebooks or homeschool!

Definitely some great ideas, you are so organized! I don’t have little ones anymore as they grew up but you inspired me to apply this to what I need. Thanks!
