We love taking advantage of various Summer Reading Club programs from a variety of different libraries. Since I look up lots of different Summer Reading Club dates and activities I thought I would share those with my loyal local readers! Our family usually takes part in a handful of programs at various library locations around the Miami Valley but I am always looking for more free family friendly events especially for my teens.
Each Summer I build our calendar around the free programs that I find and Summer Reading Club programs are a big part in our fun! I am loving all the variety of programs the libraries I have contacted so far have told me about from STEM to music to art. We also make sure to prepare Summer Reading spaces as soon as the weather is warm and are sure to look up the Kids Summer Movie schedule.
Bradford Public Library (Bradford, Ohio)
Our Summer Reading Program will officially begin June 1st. Students and adults can start to turn in their reading logs that date. We have a kickoff planned at Bradford School on April 25. We will have sign ups available at the library mid May as well.
They have weekly Movie Mondays and play some BINGO from 1-4 for kids and adults of all ages. Prior to Movies Miami County Parks will be here for their Quest Program. noon to 1.
The Bradford Public Library will end the Summer Reading Program with a Summer Olympics in our local park. Everyone who has turned in at least 1 reading log can attend. We play some wacky games, get wet and have a ton of fun then have our big prize drawing after. As long as they have turned in one reading log they will get a prize. Through the summer the library will have a ventriloquist, cartoonist, science based play, free swimming at a local pool, bluegrass festival and we offer a field trip too for the kids.
Adults have some activities as well. We are still in the planning stages right now and should have a better idea in a month.
Dayton Metro Library & Various Branch Locations (Montgomery, Ohio)
The Summer Challenge begins around May 15. It runs through the last week of July, generally the final day is the last Saturday in July. Many branches have a kick-off party, but the day they run it varies. Our largest event, Party in the Park, is at the Main Library on Saturday, June 29th 1-4pm. This used to be a big finale party, but since many branches have their own party Dayton Metro Library moved it to the middle to promote Summer Challenge registration.
Each branch sets their own programming. Many do have a regular day for activities (Teen programs at Main are on Tuesdays for example), but there’s no standard across the DML system.
Champaign County Library (Urbana, Ohio)
(Kick-off party on Saturday, June 1st at 11:30 am for families)

CCL does not have specific days set aside for teens or Imagine Lab activities – instead they’re on a variety of days to meet with a wider variety of schedules. They’ll have some smaller classes in the Imagine Lab and other programs will take place using Imagine Lab equipment in other areas of the library.
Greene County Public Library (Fairborn, Ohio)
The Summer Reading Club program runs from June 1-July 31. Fairborn Community Library’s kick-off party will be taking place on June 1 at the library. (Most of the Greene County Community Library locations have their own kick-off events; several are on June 1 but others take place in the week after.) Fairborn will have a wrap-up event with a book sale and probably some party elements on July 27. Fairborn has teen and STEM events regularly, but not on any specific recurring day.
