Welcome to Amazing Employment! Somthing2Offer’s newest series by Eldest. I will be interviewing people to find out about their careers and finding out what makes their careers Amazing. The age old advice that has been passed down for generations is to “explore your career options, find something you love and enjoy…” Even better find something you are passionate about and make that into a career to support yourself and your family. Being a homeschool kid I get the chance to spend extra time around lots of adults in a variety of careers. Some have chosen awesome jobs by choice and some have chosen jobs as a means to provide for their families. Follow along with me as we explore all these options through Amazing Employment!
Meet Debi. She is the Captain of the Home Depot Children’s build. The Home Depot Kids Workshop is a program that has been going on for a while. The program allows parents to bring their children to Home Depot to build a wooden car or boat or whatever the theme is for that month. All kids get to keep their craft, receive a FREE certificate of achievement, a Workshop Apron, and a commemorative pin. Workshops teach children do-it-yourself skills, tool safety and instill a sense of pride and accomplishment.
Debi has been the team captain for 3-4 years now. It take’s 3 HOURS to set up a typical workshop and an hour to take down. That’s a lot of work. She has to get up at 5:00! now that’s amazing. She has multiple helpers to help her set up and take everything down. So it takes less time to do everything. The Home Depot Kids Workshop is offered one time each month. At our local store it is the first Saturday of every month.
Why I like Kids Workshops? I love building a new project every month. I always have fun painting my project after I build it. My mom likes that I get some of the same hands-on building experience that she had growing up when Grandpa was building their house. I had a lot of fun interviewing Debi. She is a nice and fun person. But I think what I enjoyed most out of the whole interview was getting to know her better. I always wondered how long it took to set up. So this interview was fun for me and Debi.
Q.) Have you ever done a Home Depot Build with your child?
