Wacky Wednesday- USA State Quarters and USA Map

 Wacky Wednesday:

USA State Quarters and USA Map

wacky wednesday state quarters

What is Wacky Wednesday? Last year we created WACKY WEDNESDAY to help us get over hump day and try to remember to do something fun and unusual on Wednesdays. Not every Wednesday is Wacky Wednesday, but we try to do something a little crazy or nature-oriented.

This version of Wacky Wednesday we went a little crazy with state quarters, maps and puzzles! If the weather is cold outside and you need something fun to do inside try learning where the states are and their capitals by playing games and doing various activities.

I printed off a USA map and then the kids matched the quaters to the map. Once that was done we highlighted the states we had as we put the quarters away! This made it much easier to take a picture on our phones and when we ran into people who had quarters for us we could check to see if we still needed them. (Hint:Grandma’s have been the best resource so far. Followed by dad’s retail job:)

We used a laminated map we found at the Dollar Tree and whatever quarters we had collected at the time. We split the quarters in half and each child got to find the states that matched the quarters we have.

We had been given a floor puzzle last Christmas that features the 50 States with landmarks and is not too big. We could have put this together on the kitchen table IF it wasn’t already covered with other projects! We moved to the living-room another day to do this larger project!

Lil’ Red could NOT be left out in all this quarter fun. I brought him a piggy bank so he could drop the quarters in one by one. He did this with close supervision just to be sure he did not try to put any in his mouth. You never know about tots and two’s so it’s better to be safe then sorry.

What will you do on this WACKY WEDNESDAY!?! Find something collecting dust or an activity that has been on your TO-DO list for awhile and do it for WACKY WEDNESDAY.

We would love to hear what your family does so please leave a comment.

Great idea – we’ve collected the state quarters too – we’ll have to pull them and out and try this. Thanks!
