36 Skate Club Piqua, Ohio #30Places30Days

We live within 30 miles of 3 skating clubs: Skateworld of Vandalia, Rolling Hills Skate Club and 36 Skate Club but the closest is 36 Skate Club. Roller skating ebbs and flows in how much my children love it or don’t love it. Some of that has to do with how experienced they are and how easy it is to find a good pair of roller skates if we don’t own a pair in their size. We keep an eye out at garage sales for gently used pairs but we don’t always find the sizes that we need!

We usually only skate at 36 Skate Club for my nieces’ birthdays or with the free skate coupons that the kids receive during Summer Reading Club.

Operation Rebirth Boarding Academy St. Paris, Ohio #30Places30Days

One of our favorite places to visit is Operation Rebirth Christian Boarding Academy. I’ve known the directors since elementary school and went to school with the house mother. When I need some time in the country and a good friendly visit I head out to St. Paris!

When I bring my children we often head outside to the barn or pasture to see what animals are on the farm. Part of the philosophy behind Operation Rebirth is to provide life skills and farm training to the boys that come to live there.

Brel-Aire Bowling Alley Piqua, Ohio #30Places30Days

Bowling Alleys have been a great family activity for many generations. I remember growing up and hearing about high school competitive bowling leagues. Since I grew up out in the country we didn’t live as close to a bowling alley as we do now. I hate to admit that my youngest, Lil’ Red has never been bowling.

Alkaline Natural Spring House Vandalia, Ohio #30Places30Days

A few months ago I learned about Artesian Wells and Natural Spring via a travel blogger group on Facebook. Since my interest was peaked I figured I would search to see if one was within a day trip of our house. Low and behold there was a natural spring within a short drive of my house right in Vandalia. I knew the street name Alkaline Spring but never thought about why the street was named.

Princess and I were just up the road getting our van repaired when I realized how close we were to Alkaline Springs and zipped down the road for a visit. We knew that we might not be able to see anything as the museum complex wasn’t technically open. We were in luck! A handful of volunteers were on site working on landscaping and gardening.

Covered Bridges of Miami County, Ohio #30Places30Days

We pass the Eldean Bridge each week from September through May when we head down County Road 25-A to Troy. My husband’s Aunt Net loved Covered Bridges so much that her kitchen walls were filled with drawings, prints, and calendars of covered bridges. She even owned a few small replica covered bridges which I assume that she had collected from various trips over the years.
