What We Did ALL Week- August 5-11

August 12, 2012 By Thaleia Leave a Comment

Wow another week has flown by! Where does time go? Cyberspace, kids playing for hours outside, mom cleaning for hours inside, hours spent digging up weeds by the roots, etc. We have had 2 days of cool weather reminding us with a gentle nudge that Fall is coming. I love Autumn I just forget to get ready for it:) Like getting the yard and garden work prepped before winter. Thinning plants and trimming dead things after the birds have plucked all the seeds they can render.
BACK TO THIS WEEK and what we have done and Moments-to-Remember:
We went tree climbing, had an ice cream sundae bar, went to grandma’s (which was a BIG deal for Lil’ Red), played with the neighbors, rode bikes, learned a little bit about using a sewing machine, found a headlight flashlight, played with Thomas the train, and just had fun during one of the last weeks of summer! Next week is fair week so come back for great fair fun pics!

My husband has been studying up on simple magic tricks or illusions. He has been showing the kids some easier ones to do and driving them nuts if they cannot figuer it out. Princess practiced two different tricks using rubberbands and I would say she mastered both of them. Most of the tricks are math related with number combinations and such. What better way to spend a summer afternoon learning with dad!

Something a Little Fishy

August 8, 2012 By Thaleia 1 Comment

Just wanted to post some more pictures from Newport Aquarium that my mom took! Thanks mom for letting me get these pics from you today. We did have a fun time meeting our cousins. The two little ones in the middle are exactly the same age just hours apart! Both have Strawberry Blond hair and have little tempers to boot:)

10 Tips for Tree Climbing

10 Tips for Tree Climbing

1. Wear Appropriate Clothes and Shoes– make sure to consider jeans or pants and sturdy tennis shoes. Will keep the climb more fun with less likely getting scrapped or scratched.

2. Location, Location, Location– if you do not own trees that are climber friendly, then you will need to find some that are. Do not go onto private property without permission. Stay out of fenced areas marked No Trespassing. We went to our local community college since they have an abundance of trees.

3. Not too BIG, Not too small, JUST RIGHT– You will need to find a tree easy enough to get in and out of, but also sturdy enough to hold your weight on the lower limbs.

4. Buddy System– ALWAYS take an adult and have a climbing buddy. It’s more fun in a group and a lot safer.

5. Beware and Use Caution– Stay away from Evergreens and poison ivy vines! Do not climb sappy trees or you will get icky, sticky goo all over you which could attract insects or bees.

6. Bring your camera or video recorder– Make sure to have someone get lots of pics of your tree climbing fun.

7. Try a variety of trees– take turns when you find a good, sturdy, easy to climb tree.

8. Refreshments– Bring snacks and drinks for on the way home. You’ll be glad that you did.

9. Remember sunscreen and/or insect repellent.

10. Be grateful for God’s great wonder the TREE!

What we did all week…

July 28, 2012 By Thaleia Leave a Comment

Sometime life flies by so fast that it’s hard to distinguish one week from the next let alone one day from the next! So in joining Carisa’s Moments to Remember here’s what we did this week:

Sunday we learned how to shoot a bow and arrow. Thanks ODNR and Miami County Parks! Kids went to grandma’s and had lots of fun. That’s where the silly pictures were taken:) We stopped in the library to check in for summer reading club, played some games, and won more free fast-food coupons-yippee! Princess turned 8 but her party isn’t until tomorrow. I’ve spent lots of time learning about blogging, party planning, and getting the Back-to-School bug. Waiting for approval of our LHP/PP Homeschool Co-op location and then will book guest speakers! Took some very nice pictures as we walked around our block!
