Fun Things to See at the Newport Aquarium

June 3, 2016 By Thaleia Leave a Comment

We are fortunate to live within driving distance to a very large aquarium called Newport Aquarium. Today we are sharing some of the fun things to see at the Newport Aquarium.  I wish I had more specific information to share with you about each species but it’s a very busy place and kids tend to wander off in excitement if not watched carefully.

Goat Coloring Pages

June 1, 2016 By Thaleia 1 Comment

Did you know that International Goat Day is June 20? I didn’t know until my friend Helen from Witty Hoots mentioned she was having an International Goat Day Blog Hop!

Since we don’t live on a farm or own any goats I thought I would create a couple of goat coloring pages for this blog hop.

Free Goat Coloring Pages and Resources

I hope you enjoy International Goat Day with these free coloring pages and all the resources linked up at the bottom of this post!

Minecraft on a BIG Screen via Super League Gaming

May 31, 2016 By Thaleia Leave a Comment

This is a sponsored post on behalf of US Family Guide and Super League Gaming. I was given tickets to facilitate a review but all opinions are my own.

Do your kids love playing Minecraft? Have they ever played on a move theater sized screen before? Now they can with Super League Gaming! Since 3 of our 4 children play Minecraft I figured it would be worth the hour drive to attend a Super League Gaming event.

Minecraft on a BIG Screen via Super League Gaming

This event is held on Saturday mornings beginning at 10 am or so before the movie theater is open for actual movie times. This makes it very nice and not very crowded. We got front row parking without any problem.

Since we were coming from so far away we tried to pack anything that we could think of needing like diapers, snacks and change of clothes for Lil’ Red, enough insulin for Eldest, cordless mice, laptops, and even wooden boards as makeshift desktops!

We checked in right away so we could get all set-up before the event officially started. There were some glitches to getting online at the beginning of the game. This caused some frustration for Eldest and Princess.

Super League Gaming in theater

Once things got rolling it was hard to figure out and play by the Super League Gaming rules. I think in part that was due to mom and dad not taking more time to watch the instruction videos ahead of time and being sure that both Eldest and Princess understood them. They play Minecraft frequently but with all the different mini games within Minecraft it can be difficult to adjust to certain rules or game types.

Overall both Eldest and Princess had a good time being able to play on a BIG screen!

Strawberry Number Recognition Free Printable

May 27, 2016 By Thaleia Leave a Comment

Number recognition is a very important preschool skill that every parent hopes their child achieves quickly and easily. At our house we begin this process at birth and during many diaper changes after by counting fingers and toes on baby and mom or dad. When we get frustrated or our child gets frustrated we try to remind them to breath in and out slowly while counting to ten. Repetition of numbers and letter helps to create the connections in the brain in order to learn that new concept more easily and permanently like number recognition.

Strawberry Number Recognition

This week as part of the free unit study series I am offering a free Strawberry 1-10 Number Recognition free printable. You can use this sheet in many ways but I am going to show you what we did with Lil’ Red who is 32 months old.

Grow a Duck Weighing Activity

May 24, 2016 By Thaleia 1 Comment

We already love our local libraries but even more so during Summer Reading Club time. A couple of years ago the kids were picking out their weekly prize and one of them chose a grow a duck! Add in a small digital scale and viola you have a great Science experiment for preschool and elementary age students.

Grow a Duck Weighing Activity

First you will need to find a clear container that will house the grow a duck. Next you will need to place it in the container covered with water. Then you will need to weigh your duck each day for a week.
