Hey Mom I’ll Start Dinner Review and Giveaway

mom dinner 500 review

If you are anything like us, then dinner can be a real struggle at times. A struggle to plan easy and nutritious meals. A struggle to allow the kids to help. A struggle to find new recipes that the kids will eat. This problem can be solved by allowing kids to take ownership of dinner at least a couple times a week.

How do you get kids to cook dinner? How do you teach kids to cook? Simple. Use the new book “Hey Mom I’ll Start Dinner“. This book was written by a busy mom of four boys who saw the need to teach her son’s to cook. Helpful hints and tips are sprinkled throughout each recipe from “night before” to notes to parents. It’s suggested to plan an entire weekend cooking with your children to build a good basic foundation. We opted not to do this since my children do have basic skills and some previous cooking skills.

delicious chicken potpie

I will have to say that my kids are quite picking when it comes to vegetables especially mixed veggies. One likes peas, corn, and green beans but not celery, potatoes, or lima beans. One likes corn, green beans, and potatoes. Another only likes corn and raw carrots. This recipe was not a favorite of my kids, but my hubby, brother-in-law, and myself thought it was delicious. The recipe called for cream of chicken soup and we substituted cream of chicken instead. We also used frozen pre-cooked grilled chicken strips to make things easier. We felt the recipe needed some garlic salt and pepper but that’s just how we roll.

My daughter had fun making this recipe and I really wanted to showcase her personality with the above picture! She didn’t think I was crazy enough to share it with you, but I must!

Fancy Crust collage

Princess had already learned how to make the edge of a crust fancy from grandma at Christmas. She does an excellent job and has the patience for this task. I on the other hand would not be the one for this job. The potpie instructions were very thorough and easy to follow. The recipe with ingredients and full instructions are on page 9 in the Preview listed below.
