{Spice Up Your Homeschool} Penny Collecting

{Spice Up Your Homeschool} Penny Collecting

Heading out the door either across town, out-of-town, or out-of-state? Don’t forget to pack some bright, shiny pennies and a roll of quarters! Have you heard of penny collecting? You may remember seeing the machines as a kid at zoos, museums, or historical attractions. It’s like a little piece of history that can fit in your pocket!

This would be a great activity to do with your family or local homeschool group. If you do not live near very many than you could set up a swap or exchange with others from across the country. (I know my kids would love to swap some pennies just leave a comment and we will get back with you.) Collector’s pay top dollar for some so this could even be a small business for your children (bring in the math)!

I have been to places and gotten there and FORGOT THE PENNIES! Of course it is usually a place that has a high entrance fee and has numerous machines like a zoo, ugh! We tell the kids next time we will have to remember pennies and quarters. Now if you wanna be a super sneaky fun parent or grandparent you will look up the info the first time and maybe even call the place ahead to double-check that the machines are still there. THEN when you arrive near a machine and pull out your shiny pennies and a roll of quarters you will be a super hero to your kids, lol!

Be aware that some machines offer 3-4 designs and so a place with numerous machines could have quite a few penny designs to acquire. Most places with a machine even sell a collector’s book. I would buy one so you do not find them in the laundry or in a box of toys down the road:)

That’s a cool idea. We have a few pressed pennies from special places, but not many.
