How to Teach Your Daughter to Braid Hair

December 7, 2015 By Thaleia 3 Comments

This is a conversation sponsored by Stunning Braids by Monaé Everett. I was provided with a copy of the book for review and a chance to give a copy away!

I have never been able to do a French braid or anything too fancy with my own hair. Since Princess didn’t have much hair until she was two years old and she has super curly hair I didn’t get to create fancy little do’s on her. She started doing her own hair sometime between age five and seven. What’s a mom to do when your daughter wants to learn more fancy up do’s and twists and braids?

How to Teach Your Daughter to Braid Hair

Well, I turned to a wonderful step by step book called, Stunning Braids! I love this book for the variety of braids but also the breakdown of all the hair products, combs, and accessories that are needed to create the various hairdo’s.

Here’s a few of the braids that we tried from the book:

Princess wanted to try a French braid on my hair to practice while she could see!

I even attempted a Fishtail for the first time! I think I did pretty good and Princess said it passed.

Princess wants to continue to learn more and more complicated braids as time permits me to help her or if she convinces her dad to help. (He’s the one that has dyed her hair twice this year with kool-aid so she could have the look she wanted!)

She was so proud of these braids and twists that she had me take pictures!

I think it would be easier if she had a little sister to practice on, lol. Maybe we can borrow a friend’s daughter and have a beauty or spa night..

Some more information about the book:

Nothing impresses like an intricate braid. Whether you’re looking for a fun way to fix up day-old hair, a chic look for a night out on the town or a dazzling do for your wedding day, the braid is the way to go. My grand-daughter would love this book! She loves “doing hair” and wearing cute styles. I think this would be great fun for her—then she would be the expert 🙂

When I had jury duty a long time ago, a hairdresser passed the time by making a braid that came from the side and wrapped around my face to the other side. I love braids and think a French Braid makes for a special occasion do. Plus with hair braided overnight, when you unbraid it in the morning, you’re left with crimped hair.
