We were heading to Cincinnati for a media dinner at Freddy’s Steakburgers and Frozen Custard and decided to stop and play along the way. I looked up some parks in the area and found out about the Trammel Fossil Park located in Sharonville.
I had never heard of the Trammel Fossil Park and I have lived in Ohio all my life. We have been fossil hunting before at Caesar’s Creek before Lil’ Red was born so I thought it would be fun for him to hunt some fossils. We brought some empty ice cream buckets to help with our fossil collection.
The hill that you can climb to hunt fossils is a little steep so you must take your time working your way to the top! Good sturdy shoes like hiking boots or tennis shoes are very helpful.
Lil’ Red only had his crocs to wear but he did pretty well. He took his time looking at the rocks for fossils and didn’t fall once!
Eldest found a rock that looked like the state of Ohio so we told him he could bring that one home. I was very impressed that he found that rock among the thousands and thousands of rocks on the Trammel Fossil Park hill.
The kids had found so many cool fossils that we made them pick out their favorites and leave the rest behind on one of the picnic tables behind the park sign. When we first arrived at the park a school group was there wrapping up a hands-on class session.
I would highly suggest that you visit on a cooler Spring or late Fall day and NOT above 80 degrees as there’s not any shade in the fossil park. Sunglasses, hats, sunscreen and cold water are highly suggested if you really want to spend time hunting your perfect fossil!
