Upper and Lower Case ABC Matching Sticks

August 16, 2015 By Thaleia 12 Comments

Today I am going to share with you a very simple activity to practice upper and lower case ABC. I had two sizes of popsicle sticks and leftover scrapbook stickers. Sometimes an educational activity practically falls right into your lap. This activity used items that we had leftover from other projects and so the cost is negligible. You wouldn’t even need stickers if you have nice handwriting! I do not care for my handwriting or the time it would take for me to write tiny and neat so I choose to use stickers.

After I found enough upper case and lower case letters I began placing a sticker on each stick. I used the jumbo craft sticks for the upper case letters and the regular craft sticks for the lower case letters. I then sealed them with a layer of mod podge to be sure that the stickers couldn’t be peeled off easily. I wanted this activity to last more than one sitting.

So far only Big Red played with them and his face shows he was a little worn out after “playing” with a few different activities in one day. We will revisit this activity another day and probably only focus on 4-6 sticks at a time so the activity doesn’t become too overwhelming.

I hope this gives you an example of a fun way to play with ABC’s. For more ideas check out our 5 day series:

Yes, and we used letter stickers that we already owned so no expense out of pocket:)

We always have leftover scrapbook letter stickers! This is a great way to use them. I know my younger ones will enjoy this activity.

What a simple and fun way to work on those ABC skills!
I love craft sticks for learning activities — inexpensive and they add a bit of fine motor skill, too!

Another fun and simple idea for letter recognition. I love finding new ways to teach letters. I think it might be fun to write the letters on and then let the children add letter stickers as part of the activity too. This could be lots of fun.
Thanks for sharing this post as well as the other ones on Littles Learning Link Up. Hope to see you again soon.
