November 29, 2016 By Thaleia 1 Comment

Today’s post is written by Ashley Steel who is also the co-author of 100 Tips for Traveling with Kids in Europe.

For many families, a trip to Europe is a dream adventure. Although such a big trip can be an expensive and challenging undertaking, it can also be worth every Euro and every ounce of effort. For us, the goals of traveling have always included education of all kinds, cultural immersion, a global perspective, and family bonding. Here are seven of our favorite ideas for making family travel happen whether you have toddlers or teens in tow. These ideas and more can be found in our new book “100 Tips for Traveling with Kids in Europe.”

Our Family Travels

We have went to a lot of events and places within the state of Ohio. We have never shared any of these excursions until now. I have decided that letting people know we live in Ohio outweighs the valuable information that we have to share about the various Field Trips and Frugal Family Trips we have taken.

We used to take Eldest and Princess to the zoo, art museum, and other fun places before all day Kindergarten and 1st grade got in the way! Yes, you read that right! For us school took our children away for far too many hours of the day each and every week. My children would be on a bus before 8 am and not return home until 4:20pm. We missed them so much we ate lunch with them about once a week and stayed for recess to push them and their friends on the swings!

I will save the rest of our transition from Christian School to homeschool story for another time. (See I told you all I am ADD!) Getting back to the topic of Frugal Family Trips!!

What is Family Culture?

July 18, 2018 By Thaleia Leave a Comment

The term family culture is new to me and I recently discovered it while listening to some homeschool related podcasts. I’ve been listening to the Wild and Free podcast as well as Read Aloud Revival podcast and both of these have been mentioning the term family culture.

I had never thought about the term family culture before my recent discovery this past Fall but now I really enjoy thinking about what family culture means to me and my family. I also wanted to share this with other moms who may have never heard about family culture.

Even Sally Clarkson mentions the term “Family Culture” when she describes the process she took to write her book The Lifegiving Home. She mentions the various aspects of family culture that she feels make each family unique and different are: Personalities, History, Events, Traditions and Values. She states how family culture “defines each family member and give each one a sense of identity.”

Tsh Oxenrieder mentions family culture a few times in her book Notes from a Blue Bike. I love how she and her husband, Kyle, have made travel an important part of their family culture.

5 Things We Never Travel Without

September 25, 2017 By Thaleia 2 Comments

This post was sponsored by Nabisco as part of an Integrated Activation for Influence Central and all opinions expressed in my post are my own.

Do you spend a lot of time in your vehicle? Maybe you head out on field trips frequently or have lots of therapy appointments for your children. Your family might just enjoy spending some time on the open road and you could use some sanity saving tips like these 5 Things We Never Travel Without. Maybe your family is like ours and needs snacks, tech, and comfortable clothes to make it through the day OR maybe your family is more relaxed and travel on the fly. Either way I am sure you can relate to needing somethings in your vehicle to make your travel go more smoothly.
