Frugal Christmas Tradition Ideas

Frugal Christmas Tradition Ideas

Oh, Christmas time Oh Christmas time Oh how I love Christmas time! I love the sights, the sounds, the smells, and all the wonderful family friendly Christmas traditions that can be had at this time of year. I’ve thought about ways to make Christmas standout in my children’s minds as a time to celebrate Jesus’ birth by making meaningful memories as a family.

I know when people think of Christmas traditions you might think of decorations, candy, recipes, songs, or how you celebrate Christmas day. I think about all the frugal Christmas Tradition activities that can be had. (Yes, I have been known to “drag” our children out the door to participate in an event that I knew would be fun!) Usually my kids thank me afterwards for all the fun they do end up having!
We found a couple local treasures a few years ago that are NOT TO BE MISSED events for our family. Even though they are local to us doesn’t mean you can’t find something similar in your neck of the woods:)

Today I am guest posting over at Frugal Homeschool Family talking about our Frugal Christmas Traditions as part of Heather’s 25 Days of Frugal Christmas!

Felt Angel Christmas Ornament Tutorial

Felt Angel Christmas Ornament Tutorial

Are you a mom of school-age children looking for a simple Christmas Ornament to make? Join Princess as she shares a tutorial of how to take felt cut-out on an Ellison machine and creates a felt Angel Christmas Ornament.

I love crafting and get a little sad sometimes when I do not get to craft as often as I like. Being a wife, blogger, and mommy of four does not leave a ton of time for personal pursuits. I look forward to Christmas because it gives me that extra excuse to create something great with my children. Princess was taught basic sewing stitches a few years ago and she is now my crafting buddy.

I had cut shapes from felt last year which we had not gotten around to making into anything. Princess had the choice to use Christmas tree, camel, star, or angel for her Christmas ornament tutorial. She chose an angel. We used glitter white felt and plain white felt.

Melissa & Doug Mega Giveaway

(Disclosure: This awesome post is a sponsored giveaway by Melissa and Doug, LLC. There are affiliate links within this post. The links provide a way for us to support our site and provide great ideas and content to you! Thanks for your support.)

I’m so excited to be apart of a group giveaway featuring not one but Two Toy Shopping Sprees from Melissa & Doug hosted by twenty other bloggers and myself. A big round of applause goes out to Rebecca from A Beautiful Ruckus for coordinating this giveaway.

Melissa & Doug Collage

I first became aware of Melissa & Doug a handful of years ago when Eldest or Princess were preschool age. I would keep my eye out at garage sales and mommy consignment sales just hoping to find an educational toy from Melissa & Doug.  They are high quality but also can come with a high price tag which has often been out of reach for our meager budget. Department store coupons and online sales have been a great secondary source in order for us to expand our collection.

We own some of the Lights and Sounds puzzles, the Bear Family and recently purchased the Wooden Stringing Beads set on sale for Princess (but I made her promise to share 1 entire set of letters with Lil’ Red for Preschool.)

I love how versatile these toys are, and I’m not the only one! The bloggers below have all partnered together to bring you this fantastic giveaway from Melissa & Doug! Each blogger writes in the “kid niche area” meaning that you can click through to any blog and find inspiration for play-based educational activities, arts, and crafts that your kids are sure to love! And each one of these bloggers is as fond of Melissa & Doug as I am because they see the value in encouraging kids to learn and explore at an early age while still making it fun!

With the holiday season quickly approaching, Melissa & Doug has some great deals on toys that are sure to be a hit at your house! Their Holiday Shop is open and ready for you to peruse, and they’ve cultivated a list of their best toys in a Terrific 25 Gift Ideas. There are some fantastic deals that are live right now!

Meanwhile, I hope you take a moment to enter for a chance to win one of two shopping sprees from Melissa & Doug! I promise, you won’t be disappointed with these toys!
