Simple Coin Sorting Activity for Kids

March 1, 2016 By Thaleia Leave a Comment

Every once in a while I find items that I had forgotten that I had bought a few years earlier for homeschool. Last week I found a coin sorting and money counting workbook that included the plastic coins.

Coin Sorting Activity for Kids

I created a very simple coin sorting activity for kids both Preschool and Kindergarten age. I wanted a simple activity that both Lil’ Red and Big Red could do to learn some simple money concepts, counting, and coin sorting just seemed to be a great place to start.

Grow Your Child’s Faith with Faith Builders Bible from Zonderkidz

February 29, 2016 By Thaleia Leave a Comment

We’ve been enjoying the Faith Builders Bible from Zonderkidz as part of our Bible curriculum which we were given for review as part of the TOS Review Crew. All four of our children LOVE playing and building with LEGO so this Bible is a great way to reinforce God’s Word via building some Bible stories or scenes. Using LEGOs and their imaginations to bring the Bible to life really reinforces the lessons in their minds.

Grow Your Child's Faith with Faith Builders Bible

My husband decided to read a part of Genesis which talks in detail about the Garden of Eden. He read about the river that runs through Eden and meets up with the surrounding rivers. After he read the passage, the kids raced into their rooms to collect the needed pieces to complete their very own Garden of Eden.

Eldest, Princess, and Big Red came back with a tray of LEGO pieces that were green, blue, and brown. They found pieces that could make plants and trees as well as some pieces that were golden. They quickly got to work to build as many features of the Garden of Eden that they could with the LEGO pieces that we own.

The passage we read was Genesis 2:4-14 which details some of the topography of the Garden of Eden, specifically, the river that flowed through it and branched out into other lands. The kids spent quite a while building their own Garden of Eden scenes, even working together (gasp) to extend the rivers out to some of the other lands we read about in the passage.

Here are a few of the inside builder idea pages found within the Faith Builders Bible. There are not instructions of how to put scenes together but some very detailed ideas which helps children recreate stories from the Bible. After trying to build a few of the ideas from the book it is very easy for a younger builder to branch out and build more difficult story scenes.

Type 1 Diabetes and the Bakken Invitation

February 27, 2016 By Thaleia 60 Comments

My son, Eldest, was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes on 12/13/14! We were in total shock and disbelief from this life altering news. We spent 4 long educationally intensive days in the PICU to learn how to care for him. Now after living with this disease for over a year I am thrilled to share with you how one company has created a way to help others.

Type 1 Diabetes and Bakken Invitation Honorees

Medtronic Philanthropy created the Bakken Invitation program to connect and celebrate people who, with the help of medical technology, have overcome health challenges and now selflessly give back to their communities. This program is not limited to diabetes but to anyone who has had a health issue which has made them realize how short life can be but how rewarding life is when you “LIVE ON. GIVE ON.”
