Summer Activities for Teens and We Love Weekends

May 29, 2015 By Thaleia 7 Comments

While talking with a few other homeschool mom’s at Field Day, I discovered the LACK of Summer activities for kids over 12 years of age in my geographic area. There are plenty of art camps, nature camps, VBS, day camp opportunities for children ages 4-12, but hardly anything for older kids.
Summer Activities for Teens

Not really sure what the reasoning is besides that fact that public school kids have Football, Cheer, or Band Camp. But what if your child has no interest in those things? What will your teen do all Summer?  Summer activities for teens are pretty hard to find in our area unless you have money or send them away to camp. With that being said I racked my brain for some frugal ideas that I list below. I also wrote a post entirely dedicated to Ways Teens Can Earn Money. Be sure to check that out as well!

Impromptu Overnight Getaway and We Love Weekends

May 22, 2015 By Thaleia

I will have to admit I was ecstatic when I checked our bank account to find our tax return money. It just so happened to be a Friday that hubby had taken a vacation day for a homeschool event. We ended up skipping that event to take a quick 24 hour overnight getaway.

Impromptu Getaway

We headed through Wendy’s Drive thru and were on our way! Of course we were down the road just 10 minutes when a potty break was called which led to Beanie Boo’s! My niece first introduced us to Beanie Boos a couple of years ago but usually they are $10-$12 a piece. This Circle K Filling Station had them for $4.99 each. So we let each kid pick one out. Eldest heard Princess debating on which one to get and she narrowed it down to 2. He picked one of her choices so she could get the ones she wanted. Such a sweet big brother!

Unique Building Set: Click-A-Brick Animal Kingdom Safari

May 19, 2015 By Thaleia

We recently had the chance to review a rather unique building set as part of a review program that we participate in. I saw the theme of animals and thought it would be great for Big Red to build something that Lil’ Red could play with.Unique building set great for summer #clickabrick

I have to admit I was a little disappointed in the fact that the bricks are quite difficult to put together and take apart even for myself and hubby! We did our best to follow the directions which at first seemed really good but then we realized were almost too detailed.

Visiting a Pet Store and We Love Weekends

May 15, 2015 By Thaleia

We have a very small pet store in our town and then the town south of us has a different one. Both are great places to go to observe and see unusual pet’s that you might never want to own. The first time I remember seeing a real chameleon was at the pet store one night after dropping off Princess at ballet. Lil’ Red was super clingy so I decided to take him along with us. I needed to stop in the dollar store to get some batteries for Eldest’s bg meter and decided to pop into the pet store to show Lil’ Red some critters.

Visiting a Pet Store

He was in awe at the teeny tiny hamsters. We watched a few of them but most were all snuggled up in some sorta cube toy. One was stretching and drinking from her water bottle. We saw rats, mice, guinea pigs, ferrets and hamsters for furry things.

Inexpensive Way to Try Essential Oils

May 9, 2015 By Thaleia 16 Comments

Have you held off on jumping onto the Essential Oils bandwagon but now you are ready to give them a try? Maybe the cost has prevented you from making an order due to the expense. Well, I have a treat for you today. I had the pleasure of reviewing Heaven Scent Essential Oils roller bottles. These all glass roller bottles come pre-filled and diluted ready for your use right out of the package. No guessing, measuring, or stocking a bunch of essential oils that you may never use again.
