Back to School Bags

August 14, 2018 By Thaleia 1 Comment

This post was sponsored by Trident Gum as part of an Influencer Activation for Influence Central and all opinions expressed in my post are my own.

Each year near the end of Summer I create Back to School Bags for each of my children. Since we homeschool I have created bags for each child to make Back to School a fun tradition and not something to dread. We no longer wait for the big yellow bus and so we often forget to take a lot of first day pictures. These Back to School bags are filled with both fun and educational items that are new and specific to each child.

We make sure to include new notebooks, folders, and school supplies in each child’s favorite colors. Eldest prefers red, Princess like blue, Big Red likes green and Lil’ Red loves orange!

DIY Flower Press #NatureBookClub {Link Up}

May 20, 2018 By Thaleia 4 Comments

Spring is a good time to make a DIY Flower press from recycled materials as wildflowers are in bloom! May’s theme for Nature Book Club is wildflowers but we also have a HUGE resource post all about parts of a flower from a few years ago!

One thing I have come to appreciate about having four children over a decade is that the younger ones haven’t done everything that the big kids have. This means that I get to relive and share activities over again. This is especially fun for me and nature activities.

Lil’ Red loves nature and looking at our flowers both cultivated and wildflowers. He is more then happy to collect flowers or leaves for homemade medicine. It just occurred to me that he had never pressed leaves or flowers. Since he is my hands-on learner I knew he would enjoy this activity.

We own a couple of books about wildflowers that are fun to use to identify plants that we do not know. One called Spring Wildflowers of Ohio is free from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources and can be viewed online or saved as a pdf! You can also check out the Wildflower Bloom report for Ohio.

Join #NatureBookClub May 20-31 to learn about #wildflowers with crafts & activities.

Preparing for a Family Bike Ride

May 8, 2018 By Thaleia Leave a Comment

Since Big Red has learned to ride a bike without training wheels it is time we go on a family bike ride! We will need to check that each person has a bike and that the bike trailer’s tires are still holding air which Lil’ Red will ride in. Since that means we have 5 bicycles to check it could take all week long to get everything prepared. We also buy our bike tires and tubes online since it’s cheaper so we have to factor in some additional time for shipping.

Do you have tips for preparing for a family bike ride? READ our TIPS for getting bike ride ready!

One thing that we enjoy doing each year as a family is to plan field trips and vacations. Since we all love learning about new things and we each have a sense of adventure this works well for our family.
