Nest Craft

January 17, 2016 By Thaleia 1 Comment

Winter is a great time to learn about birds, bird watching, and nests! If you have feeders in your yard then you can get an up close and personal look at birds. If you do not have access to birds in real-life then books can help do the trick!

We used four different books for reference and to spark some interest for our nest craft project! The books we used which can be found via our Amazon affiliate links were: Birds, Nests & Eggs , My Baby Blue Jays, A Nest Full of Eggs and The Best Nest .

After we looked through the books for ideas of what nests look like we tried making some of our own! We used brown crinkle paper and skinny straw-like raffia.

First we tried to shape them by hand. It sorta worked. Princess wasn’t too happy with how it turned out. I thought it looked pretty nice myself!

Then we used school glue on an empty applesauce cup to help with a nest shape. Princess wanted to try using a small water balloon and a jumbo plastic egg to see if that would work.

Kindergarten Valentine’s Day Activities

January 14, 2016 By Thaleia 1 Comment

I was running out of time in trying to find some educational Kindergarten Valentine’s Day activities that Big Red could do. I turned to an old standby website that I have used many times before, Making Learning Fun!

Kindergarten Valentine's Day Activities

I looked up some Valentine’s Day printables for letter recognition, Math, and Literacy activities. I found exactly what I was looking for. A simple V shaped worksheet for dot-to-dot markers works great with dot stickers instead!

Winnie the Pooh Play Doh Invitation to Play

January 12, 2016 By Thaleia 11 Comments

In honor of AA Milne’s birthday on January 18th Peakle Pie is celebrating by having a blog hop for all things to do with Winnie the Pooh – stories, activities, games, sensory, recipes, crafts and so on – the more the merrier! I decided to share a few different activities with Lil’ Red and Big Red! I just so happened to have some small plastic figurines, some playdough, and a nice veggies platter to create our Winnie the Pooh Play doh Invitation to Play!

Rainbow Bears Washing Station Learning Activity

January 7, 2016 By Thaleia 8 Comments

While I was preparing some of our other Rainbow Bears activities I found a dirty little yellow bear! GASP! I almost ran over to the sink to wash it when I realized that I should just turn it into a fun learning activity.

Rainbow Bears Washing Station

I was already racing around the house digging out tools for the Rainbow Bears Sensory Bin, Rainbow Bears Color Tube Sort, and the Rainbow Bears Science Experiments so I had the grey tray and bears all ready to go.
