Grow a Duck Weighing Activity

May 24, 2016 By Thaleia 1 Comment

We already love our local libraries but even more so during Summer Reading Club time. A couple of years ago the kids were picking out their weekly prize and one of them chose a grow a duck! Add in a small digital scale and viola you have a great Science experiment for preschool and elementary age students.

Grow a Duck Weighing Activity

First you will need to find a clear container that will house the grow a duck. Next you will need to place it in the container covered with water. Then you will need to weigh your duck each day for a week.

Learning Shapes with a Geoboard

May 17, 2016 By Thaleia Leave a Comment

Lil’ Red is at the right age to learn more then your basic shapes of circles and squares. A great way to this is with lots of hands-on learning. Since we own a homemade geoboard I thought this would be a great way to learn shapes.

Learning Shapes with a Geoboard

I found some free printables to work as a guide to show him how to make various shapes. I found geoboard printables that were full sheet or multiple per page of paper. As soon as Lil’ Red saw the paper he wanted to create a house.

geoboard house

Off we set to create the house. We used some stretchy hair bands from Walmart because they don’t snap or break as easy as rubber bands plus these were on clearance!

geoboard house progress

I tried to get him interested in creating the double square or the boat but he only wanted to create the house over and over again all day long.

Parts of a Flower Free Resources

May 12, 2016 By Thaleia 3 Comments

May’s Kindergarten Blog Hop is here! This month our theme is Flowers. It’s been a crazy couple of weeks at our house so I decided to throw together a post for free resources for parts of the flower. You can use these free resources for any age preschool to older elementary. If your child is flower crazy like mine then you will want to make your own DIY Flower Press!

Parts of a Flower book

I printed off a 3 page worksheet that turns into a book about the parts of a flower for Big Red to color, read, and cut out. I found this free printable book from Worksheet place.
