Action Painting Like Jackson Polluck

May 7, 2016 By Thaleia Leave a Comment

I have been meaning to do some action painting like Jackson Polluck for a few years now. I was so excited when Messy Little Monster announced her Exploring Famous Artists series. I jumped at the chance to participate sharing how we created Jackson Polluck paintings.

We watched a couple of videos and read a few books before we created our own works of art.  You can check out one of the books called called Jackson Pollock (Getting to Know the World’s Greatest Artists).

Action Painting Like Jackson Polluck

I went to JoAnn’s and bought a 5 pack of canvases. They were on sale plus I used my 15% teacher discount!  My goal is to have all four children create a piece of art work to hang behind our couch in the living room. The paint that we used was given to us from Home Depot during one of our kid workshop sessions.

April 14, 2016 By Thaleia 4 Comments

My children love to read! What better subject to share with children then the topic of Mother’s Day. Everyone has one no matter what your current situation and I know that sharing good books with children helps to increase their knowledge of the world around them while sparking curiosity in new things!

Celebrate National Park Week

April 13, 2016 By Thaleia Leave a Comment

I love nature and I love finding free things to do that are new for our family. We are lucky enough to live near a few National Park Service parks. We have been able to visit a few of them the last few years as either a homeschool field trip or on a blog trip.

Celebrate National Park Week

We have many more to visit and we hope to visit a few new one’s this year. National Park Service isn’t just a place to learn about nature but History, Invention, and places of historical significance like Perry’s Monument National Park.

Just in case you didn’t know National Parks Week is April 15-23 which means many NPS locations will waive their normal admission fees to allow more visitors to enjoy the National Parks.

Other Free NPS days in 2017:

  • January 16: Martin Luther King Jr. Day
  • February 20: Presidents’ Day
  • April 15-16 and 22-23: Weekends of National Park Week
  • August 25: National Park Service Birthday
  • September 30: National Public Lands Day
  • November 11-12: Veterans Day Weekend

Free Admission for 4th graders:

If you are a fourth grader, or age equivalent free-choice learner, you and your family can receive an Every Kid in a Park pass that will give you free access to hundreds of parks, lands, and waters for an entire year.

Junior Rangers and Web Rangers:

Do you know about the Junior Ranger program offered through the NPS? I love having my children work on these very education scavenger hunt style books as part of our homeschool education. If you don’t live close to a National Park then you can work on a variety of Junior Ranger type skills via Web Rangers!

Tips and Tricks for a New Puppy

March 25, 2016 By Thaleia Leave a Comment

We just picked up our new puppy, Bayley yesterday! It has been a crazy first 24 hours with our sweet pup! We had spent the entire past week preparing for our new puppy. We did a huge clean up all around the house to ensure that she was coming into a safe environment. Since we have not had a puppy for 15 years this means it’s the first time with kids and a puppy! Boy has it been a learning curve for all of us including Bayley.

Princess did a ton of research for what a new puppy would need and how to train a puppy. She even researched toys, treats, leash training, potty training, and basic puppy socialization. We found out about Puppy Playdates each Saturday held at our local Petco, we searched out Obedience classes. After talking to our vet he suggested NOT going to public dog parks or playdate until after two puppy well visits.

Dominoes Sensory Bin

March 22, 2016 By Thaleia Leave a Comment

I have a tin of dominoes for each of my children that I bought at Dollar General a few years ago. I really liked the idea of the tins plus I have created some keepsake ornaments for each child. Today I am sharing with you a way to play with dominoes for your toddler or preschooler. I created a dominoes sensory bin for Lil’ Red to enjoy.
