Homeschooled Through High School: Kerry Jones from Let’s Homeschool High School

Homeschooled Through High School:

Kerry Jones from

Let’s Homeschool High School

Those of us who homeschool or who have been homeschooled through high school know that IT IS VERY Possible.  But how? Many parents and students look towards high school with fear and trepidation instead of being joyous as to how far into the journey they have come. I realize that families homeschool for a multitude of reasons and that each family is unique, but questions still arise when the words high school are mentioned!

This week I would like to welcome Kerry Jones from Let’s Homeschool High School.

Let's Homeschool Highschool Kerry JonesI’ve been homeschooling for almost 14 years. And no, not in dog years. Which means I’ve been around the home education block a time or two. But the biggest challenge for me today is STILL the same challenge I faced in the beginning – – finding a community of other families to network with and share information with.  Granted, homeschooling has exploded in popularity in the last decade, but sometimes I still have difficulty connecting with families in similar situations or stages to our own.

The way I’ve generally overcome my homeschool networking issues by CREATING what I couldn’t find. In 2009, I started a website for homeschooling families whose main homeschooling focus wasn’t religious in nature. SecularHomeschool.com now has over 8,000 members from 20 different countries, and features one of the most active homeschooling forums on the web!

And this past year, with one son graduated and another one a high school junior, I realized that my focus had shifted toward interacting with other families who were discussing subjects like transcripts, homeschool-friendly colleges, and career choices. I started searching for a one-stop shop on the internet for finding information about homeschooling through the high school years and preparing for life after homeschool. When I couldn’t locate a resource like that, I decided to set out to create it!  LetsHomeschoolHighschool.com has been one of the most exciting projects of my life!

LetsHSHS.com has a dual purpose:

1      Encouraging parents about the real possibilities of homeschooling a child all the way through high school and providing them the tools to plan, prepare, and navigate the process.

2      Supporting students who either wish to create educational independence for themselves or are working with parents to reach specific home education goals in preparation for the future

With a student and parent forum, a high school curriculum directory, tons of articles about each aspect of homeschooling high school, free downloads for planning, and multiple ways to interact with other homeschooling high schoolers via Facebook, Twitter, Google+, and Pinterest. LetsHomeschoolHighschool.com truly is the only resource a homeschooler would need to successfully navigate the high school years.

So, I suppose my motto for life is: if you can’t find it….CREATE IT.
