2018-2019 Homeschool Curriculum General Overview

August 23, 2018 By Thaleia Leave a Comment

Each year during the Spring and Summer I think about the upcoming Fall and what it will bring for my children’s educations via homeschool curriculum. I try to look for new and interesting things to learn, study and experience. This year will be our first year that all four children will be “in school”.

homeschool curriculum 2018-2019

We started last year all learning the same Science and History which seemed to make my life a little bit easier. Last year we learned American History and Anatomy (loosley using Guest Hollow’s outline) while this year we will focus on Ancient History and Botany. We will use Mystery of History 1 and Guest Hollow’s Ancient History for book, video and activity ideas as well as Guest Hollow’s Botany.

Free Resources for The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe

January 8, 2018 By Thaleia 2 Comments

During the month of January we are reading or rather listening to The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis during lunch time. One of our groups on Facebook is doing a book club and this is the book that was chosen. I am delighted in sharing this book with my youngest son as he has not heard it before. Eldest and Princess haven’t heard it since they were in early elementary when Riley read it to them and Riley read it to Big Red last year.

Free Resources for The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe

I want to bring the story of The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe to life a bit for the younger ones as well as do extension activities so that the older ones can count more hours on their high school transcripts. Since I do not have a lot of time or money I thought it would be wise to do a quick Google search and see what I could come up with.

Anatomy Gift Ideas for Kids

October 30, 2017 By Thaleia Leave a Comment

Since we are studying Anatomy this year I am always on the lookout for new fun and educational additions to our game and toy collection. I have seen other homeschool mom’s share some very cool products and wanted to share some that I have found that would make great Christmas or Hanukkah gifts.

Until I began browsing Amazon I had no idea that many of these items even existed but super excited that they do! Since we have ages from 4 to 14 I will share a variety of Anatomy gift ideas for that entire age range.

How to Take Your Temperature + Free Printable

September 6, 2017 By Thaleia Leave a Comment

We are doing Anatomy for Science this year using Guest Hollow’s Anatomy as our guide. The first week we are learning about Cells for High School students and Our Bodies for Elementary students. Within this week’s lesson we are learning to take your temperature. Usually medical equipment is not allowed to be played with at our home but for educational purposes mom pulls out all the goods!

How to Take Your Temperature + Free Printable

Since we own numerous thermometer’s I thought it would be good for each child to learn about each one and practice using a thermometer.

Operation Rebirth Boarding Academy St. Paris, Ohio #30Places30Days

May 16, 2017 By Thaleia 1 Comment

One of our favorite places to visit is Operation Rebirth Christian Boarding Academy. I’ve known the directors since elementary school and went to school with the house mother. When I need some time in the country and a good friendly visit I head out to St. Paris!

When I bring my children we often head outside to the barn or pasture to see what animals are on the farm. Part of the philosophy behind Operation Rebirth is to provide life skills and farm training to the boys that come to live there.
