Tips for Surviving a Homeschool Convention

April 6, 2018 By Thaleia 4 Comments

Spring means the end of the school year is near and for homeschoolers that means it is homeschool convention season! It is time to look for new curriculum or the next years textbooks as well as take is encouraging workshops. Many locations across the country offer family friendly homeschool convention options with great price options. Individual tickets or family tickets depending on if it’s a parent getaway or a family staycation! If you plan on taking the kids with you then consider making them their own ID.

Homeschool Convention Tips for the Parents

1.Read the schedule before going

One mom who goes to a homeschool convention EVERY year suggests downloading the schedule onto a tablet or ipad. Jot down the workshops that interest you then highlight everything once the final schedule and exhibit hall map are available.

2. Pack snacks and water

Jerky, cheese and cracker packs, fruit leathers and a small lunch will keep your wallet happy! Make sure that your bag can carry a water bottle. Throw a whole case into your car’s trunk if you plan to attend the whole 3 days of convention.

3. Wear comfy clothes and layer

More then one mom told me how the temperature can very from freezing to hot depending on where you are in the convention center. You will want a light sweater or jacket for the cooler rooms. Be sure that you have shoes that are comfortable and good for walking (pack a 2nd pair to swap out if you are attending all 3 days.)

Riley and I went on a couples road trip to Columbus last Spring and have yet to share our adventures. Today I am sharing with you an Ohio oddity located in Dublin, Ohio called Field of Corn which makes for a great stop on a road trip to Columbus. I had first heard about this Field of Corn from Tonya Prater of Travel Inspired Living!

Road Trip Attraction Concrete Filed of Corn Dublin, Ohio

Since this road trip attraction is free and open to the public I knew that we would want to check this Concrete Field of Corn out for ourselves. We drove up to the location and were quite surprised at how precise the rows of corn cobs had been erected. I can envision our children running through the rows and around the corn cobs playing tag or hide and seek!

Do you worry about creating a high school transcript for your homeschooler or high school student? You do not have to be fret, pull your hair or hire someone to do this for you! You the parent can provide your child with a high school transcript that is legal and recognizable.

Tips for taking the Fear out of High School Transcripts

If you work on your child’s 4 year plan high school plan then creating a high school transcript is the next step. You can add each subject completed each semester or year depending of if the course taken is half-year or full year.
