Recycled Bottle Cap Art #junkplay

March 9, 2015 By Thaleia 2 Comments

We love recycling and we love art and we love to play with our recycled items. I was very excited to be apart of a super cool blog series called 60 Day Junk Play Challenge hosted by Best Toys for Toddlers. She has graciously invited other Kid Bloggers to each share a post focusing on 1 “junk” item. I choose recycled bottle caps because I knew that we had a huge amount saved from previous tot trays and busy bag activities.

Moses and the Plagues of Egypt Sensory Bin

February 23, 2015 By Thaleia 4 Comments

I realize that I have not blogged about specific Bible topics outside of Christmas but that is about to change. I have teamed up with a group of bloggers who are sharing various Bible story topics related to the “The Jesus Storybook Bible” for preschoolers. Most of the chapters and topics were filled but the wheels started turning when I saw Moses and the Plagues of Egypt.

Parenting Woes: Can’t I just Take a Shower?

February 12, 2015 By Thaleia 1 Comment

People often envy that which they do not know or understand. Being a WAHM of four children is tough work! I will not lie or sugar coat the trials of just being able to take a  shower! This is my rant aka parenting woes about my attempts to get a shower for over 45 minutes and all the craziness that ensued.

take a shower

Today my hubby had to go into work since he is “staff” at a school he does not get 2 weeks off during Christmas and New Year’s. I heard him stirring and getting ready for work. I got out of bed, still a little bit groggy from a 2 am check on Eldest. I went to the kitchen and poured our cups of coffee. I popped two pieces of cinnamon raisin bread into the toaster. I took both cups of coffee to the microwave and heated them up. I started to eat and drink my coffee. We chat briefly before he heads to work.

Why I Might Delete Your Comment or Facebook Post

January 15, 2015 By Thaleia 20 Comments

How do you explain internet safety to the older and well meaning generation? How do you convince friends and family NOT to use your child’s real name on Facebook or in blog comments? Well, this is how I am officially telling everyone via blog post. I think this sums it up nicely and hopefully without stepping on toes or hurting feelings.

We use nicknames for our children and plan to do so until they are old enough to write and manage their own internet presence and that’s a minimum of 13 per most social media and internet websites.

might delete your comment

Dear Grandma’s, Family, and Friends Who Really Know Us,

I just want to bring something to your attention before you get mad or upset. Yes, I blog and often include one or more of my children in my blog posts. Yes, I share pictures of their faces online and include them on Facebook. I have also taken some basic internet safety precautions by giving them nicknames or online personas. Both their dad and I talked about this early on and felt that this was the BEST way to go!

This protects their identity and keeps them “unknown” when they grow up and want to break out in their own endeavors. It will be at that point THEY can let people know that they were so and so featured on their mom’s blog for x number of years or wrote x number review posts for their dad’s blog.

Please refrain from using their real names on Facebook or in blog comments. I will delete your comments without batting an eye. Not because I don’t appreciate your loving remarks but for the sake of our children’s safety and future I feel that this is BEST!

You may not realize that I have over 500 Facebook friends and almost 4K FB Page followers many that I have never met in real life but have collaborated with on blog projects. We also have over 20K people visiting our blog each month and feel that this small gesture of privacy is necessary.

For this same reason I have not blogged about field trips which might identify where we live even though we have done some awesome ones.

Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.

12/13/14 The ER, DKA, and Diabetes Diagnosis (Part 4) FINALE

December 30, 2014 By Thaleia 9 Comments

Thanks for sticking with my long winded story about Eldest spending four days in the PICU and Children’s hospital. Ironically he is the only one that has been hospitalized now TWICE!

So we are waiting around on day three of our hospital stay to get transferred out of the PICU and onto the 3rd floor regular wing. Eldest did not have quite the appetite that they wanted him to have so we were waiting and biding our time until he was well enough to be transferred. His blood glucose numbers were not quite regulating the way they had wanted. We had been giving him some insulin at this point and checked his fingers a few times as well.

Hospital Day 4

His first official meal was ordered BEFORE I arrived at the hospital. I looked at it in surprise: personal pizza, grapes, and carrots! Okay for a kid that had not eaten in over 3 days I was not a happy camper! He was throwing up the last day he remembered at home. Why on earth would they let him order a pizza? I looked at the dried out carrots and inspect the slightly shriveled grapes. I then inspect them further and find one with mold on it! I WAS LIVID!!
