A Day at the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium Columbus, OH #EXPCOLS

July 21, 2016 By Thaleia Leave a Comment

What better way to learn about animals from different countries then to visit the zoo! We decided to get a Columbus Zoo and Aquarium membership for our family since we have not had one in a handful of years. We also realized earlier this yea that Lil’ Red had not been to the zoo before and he will be three in August-gasp!

A Day at the Columbus Zoo

We make an entire day of going to the zoo because we live 90 minutes away but we also take the scenic route to avoid traffic on the highway and all that nasty construction that always seems to be going on. We pack a meal, drinks, and extra snacks like jerky sticks, dried fruit, and nuts.

Marblehead Lighthouse Marblehead, OH

July 15, 2016 By Thaleia 4 Comments

Right along the shores of Lake Erie you can find the Marblehead Lighthouse. It is open most days from 10 am to 4 pm which is very important to know. It costs $2 per person to walk the 77 steps up to the top and take a look across the lake.

Marblehead Lighthouse

When you go on a road trip with kids it very important to make pit stops and get a chance to burn some energy! The large rocks near the edge of Lake Erie gave the kids just such an opportunity! We made sure to keep a close eye on them as the jumped from rock to rock or just ran around in the grass.

Armstrong Air & Space Museum Wapakoneta, OH

July 8, 2016 By Thaleia Leave a Comment

We recently took a trip to the Armstrong Air & Space Museum in Wapakoneta, Ohio. We have been before but it’s been a few years so Big Red didn’t remember it and Lil’ Red was not born yet. This museum features lots of visual as well as hands-on exhibits that are great for kids of all ages.

Armstrong Air & Space Museum

The museum is owned by the State of Ohio, is part of the Ohio History Connection’s statewide system of historic sites and museums, and is operated by the local Armstrong Air and Space Museum Association. Neil Armstrong was never involved in the management of the museum nor benefited from it in any way.

Reasons to Make Pit Stops a Priority on Road Trips

June 24, 2016 By Thaleia 7 Comments

If you are planning a road trip then you just might want to consider these reasons to make pit stops a priority. Even Sally Clarkson in her book The Lifegiving Home talks about the importance of pit stops!

Reasons to Make Pit Stops a Priority on Road Trips

The first rest area in a state has hotel coupons and tourist guides.

If you are headed far from home you may need some guidance as far as hotel stays or nearby attractions. While most of our trips are planned way in advance due to them being press trips occasionally we take an impromptu getaway where this tip is very useful.

Winans Chocolates and Coffees Factory Tour Piqua, OH #WinansExperience

June 8, 2016 By Thaleia Leave a Comment

Little did we know when we signed up to take a Winans Factory Tour that we would be touring a business that has 5 generations of history! Winans’ first generation baker, Charles Walton, actually came from Michigan before he opened up his Ohio locations.
