X is for X-Ray into American Medicine

We’ve all had to go to the doctor at some point, but when
we’re getting poked and prodded, we don’t usually think about the history
behind the science. From cells and medicines to X-Rays and MRIs, America has played
a big role in making medicine what it is today.

Because history should be taught from a holistic point of view, I’m going to include some resources addressing the contributions of various groups, in addition to more traditional history lessons.

EnterTrainment Junction

We don’t get to Cincinnati very often but we have whizzed by EnterTrainment Junction many times not having time to stop. When the homeschool discount email came for their Spring Homeschool Days I knew we would finally get to check out all the fun that EnterTrainment Junction had to offer.

I love the idea that the activities are all indoors so you can stop by in any weather during operating hours. Anytime it’s rainy or too hot we could stop by and see the trains or choose a new scavenger hunt list to complete. There is one activity outside but it wasn’t open for the season- a small Thomas Train Ride for kids under 10 approx.

Researching a New Pet and We Love Weekends

Some of Princess’ friends have hamsters so she has been wanting one for probably a year now. The main objective in getting a hamster is keeping a clean room and learning to care for a small pet. We had a dog, Jazz, whom we had to put to sleep October 2013 and we have been pet free except for some caterpillar’s last Fall. I have to admit it has been really nice to not have to care for a pet or find a pet sitter if we are going to be gone for more then 3-4 hours.

Researching a New Pet

She has been diligently keeping her room at bay as well as reading and researching all about hamsters. Last Summer one of the college student’s who works at the library brought her hamster in for another librarian to hamster sit! This of course helped ignite the love of hamsters all over again. (My husband has actually owned two in his lifetime which is very interesting.)
